    Wanted: Fur Buyer

I would agree with Groenwold. From what I have heard the prices they are giving so far this year are real good.

    Iowa Furbearer Season

Talked to my dad today and the dealer in Algona is buying muskrats for $7.50 on the carcass! He said it has actually gone up over the last day or two he was giving $8 for skinned and stretched. Coon prices sound about the same. He plans on shipping to the auction in Canada, the guys were seeing...

    South East Iowa Hunting Report:

I would agree that the numbers I have seen are really down and from what I hear its is a similar story all over. I don't know how much effect this would have on what we are seeing now but last years winter was pretty brutal. I had read that the depth of the snow was a big problem because the...

    coat & bibs

The Red Head Bone Dry C.W.S series from Bass Pro are great. The bone dry is their version of gore tex and I sat in the rain last friday and was dry and warm. I have the insulated pants so not bibs but with the pants and parka should stay plenty warm and dry.

    Calling success lately?

I have used my call with little luck as well. I try not to use it too much but had a real nice shooter out of range, tried to call and he barely even paid attention. The few I have called at seem to really care less except a small fork that got pretty fired up one day. Overall very little luck...

    Movement update...

I sat from 3 til dark and only saw one buck and he was doggin a doe. That buck just happened to be the one I'm after and it was on my walk in, no where near my stands, and moving away from any stand whatsoever. Things are picking up and hopefully this front of weather moving in will push it to...

    Tactics

Hey all got another question. The stand that I was planning on hunting tomorrow faces the NW. The wind is supposed to be straight out of the south tom. The other stands in the timber are not to good for south wind either so I was thinking about setting up on the ground across from said stand...

    Busted Or Not

Hey guys got a question. I was in stand this evening and had a real nice 8 walk by at about 50 yards. He never noticed me in stand and I let him walk due to the length of the shot. He wandered off so I stayed in until dark. When I climbed out I crossed the fence to head across the field back to...

Using an ozone generator on your clothes to stay scent free

This is my first year for bow so take this as you will but I use the scent clothes wash, soap in the shower and the cover scent spray before I walk to the stand. I had a doe come in and watched her for 30min, she scent checked about 4 times and was within 10 yards and never thought twice. Just...

    Staying positive

No worries friend nobody has seen much yet. I have been out 3 times and have watched 2 does and 2 buttons. The only decent deer I have seen snuck by me while I was checking out the does under my stand and by the time I caught him out of the corner of my eye he was back into the brush. I think I...

    Broadheads

G5 Montecs 100 grain. I like the fixed blade and they fly very true. I would also agree with the ability to resharpen easily.

    Success in the Rain??

A light rain can really work in our favor. The deer seem to be more comfortable moving for some reason. I think that may be due to the rain knocking down a lot of the scent in the area. Also the sound of the rain can give you an advantage due to you are not the only sound in the woods, but man...

    Bigfoot?!

I know the feeling of being watched. I was walking in to the timber the other morning and had to cross a healthy chunk of standing corn. After a few min in the corn I started looking around cause I was getting that "feeling". To make it even better a slight breeze started blowing all the corn...

    Scent Block and Calls

Hey all just checking out what everyone is using for scent control. I'm using the Dead Down Wind. Also is anyone using any calls yet. I figured some soft friendly grunting this early may not be bad. What are your thoughts?

    Best Movies???

I would agree with Last of the Mohicans, but by far my favorite would have to be Jerimiah Johnson.

    From the Days of Old....

No jabs here, great video. Big or small they all count and the thrill of it all is worth just as much as the deer itself. Nice work.

    Getting Started

I started to shoot some today. I have a 30 draw so a lot were not a good fit but I could still get the overall feel. I have noticed a lot on places like craigslist for decent prices but I'm not that confident in them just for the fact that who knows if they have been well taken care of.
