    cold feet

I had the same problem. I bought a good quality boot, Lacrosse with I think 1500 grams insulation. Then I put on a pair of Woolrich wool socks. I put a toasty toe on each sock and then cover with an old pair of ragwool socks. My socks are loose and so are my boots. This combination has never let...

    Running deer vs. slug velocity

Those who can I grew up in Arkansas when it was legal to use dogs to hunt deer. Those days are gone. However in that environment I learned how to shoot at running deer. What it meant to wait til they smoothed out. How to line up on the nose, keep the flow going, get out in front and squeeze...

    Moving trail markers

Booner So let me get this straight. If you use trail markers you're dumb? So how do you get to and from your stand when it's dark? Just curious.

    Moving trail markers

Those who move markers for fun Yeah I've met folks like you before. By the way if you get caught in Iowa you're harassing and impeding a hunter and you can go to jail as well as have your hunting privileges suspended. It's so easy to write down a tag number (vehicle) and trail cams up high are...

    Moving trail markers

Same here. Mine are clip on. I take em out before shotgun season. I have no problem with cleaning up the timber when the season is over. However mine were put up this season and stolen this season as well.

    Moving trail markers

This is my rant. I set up trail markers on public land. The primary reason is so that I can get to and from my areas in the dark. I get way off the beaten path. So someone removed them! They were the clip on type. Now I don't mind someone hunting an area I've scouted because it's public...

    Bad Advice?

Muddy, I have been accused of many things. However having common sense isn't one of them.:D

    No Shave November

My habit was to always grow a beard in winter. Then I got married. I grew my beard. Spring came and I was going to shave it off. My wife protested and said with a face like mine the more I cover up the better I look. She hunts and we've been together for 35 years. :way:

    Bad Advice?

On another thread there was a discussion about the best after care material to use after defecating in the woods. Muddy gave what I thought was great advice, Baby Wipes! So I put a small pack in my fanny pack. They worked great. Anyway I left them in my fanny pack in the truck like I always do...

    Movement Update...

This morning Saturday. 1 doe, 1 fork, 1 outdoor deer magazine cover! Bucks came in behind me so no shot but they responded to rattling.

    Broken arrows

Yes. He helped a lot and explained everything and then made sure I shot it and observed the arrow flight. It's nice to have a true expert handy. I also smoke a pipe and picked up some tobacco. So I get the best of two worlds in the same shop.:D

    Broken arrows

update I took some good advice and went to a pro shop in Sioux City. My rest was off center. (Previously moved the rest to get the broadheads to match filed points.) Turns out that my nock point was 1/8 inch high. My arrows were also underspined due to the length being 29 1/2. So now I have...

    patching

Your local hardware store should have a rubber patch kit for garden hoses. Make sure the kit has a patch big enough for the tear. Some only have small patches. My hardware guy showed them to me and he's used them. You mix the goop, spread it on your patch and boot. Wait til its tacky and press...

    Broken arrows

While my bow could be out of tune I am shooting good groups at 20 yards. I shoot at different circles on the Block so I don't nick the carbon. I know a nicked arrow can cause an explosion. I was thinking maybe spine, weight etc. and other stuff I don't understand. I shoot a 3d deer and had no...

    2 great moments

Done that I had to get a new phone when I dropped my old one in a lake while fishing from a canoe. 10-4 on the hassle of putting all the contacts back in. It was fun however to call my old number and have the message go to voice mail when I knew it was underwater.:p

    Broken arrows

Shot a doe and she jumped up and humped her back like she had been hit with a rifle. I found my arrow broken just below the fletching. The doe came by and there wasn't any blood on her side where I had shot. I got s very close look as she was about ten yards out. There was no blood trail. No...

    2 great moments

Cooter, No offense taken. I've nicked the green with both arrow and knife. Worse stink ever was on a fresh doe who had been chowing down on alfalfa. Now that was a stink even though I retrieved her quickly as I saw her go down. I know with a name like Cooter you've got to be good folks.

    2 great moments

Nope Cooter, It was all in the boiler room. The phone just had a little blood on it. Wiped it off and it's fine. I wonder how long the phone would have stank had it been a gut shot?
