A couple knives

A few weeks ago, a co-worker had talked me into making her a small knife for her cowboy action shooting attire. While I was building her blade I went ahead and made a few for myself to give away as gifts.
She wanted a bone handle on her's but I wanted to use osage on mine.
The blades are made from an old buzz saw blade that was pitted from rust. I removed all the pits on the bone handled knife but decided on mine to leave some as I felt it added some character.
Both blades have "Vine" file work on the blades spine.
Several more are in progress but will be awhile before I get back to them.

The osage on this knife came from our very own Skully, and he said that the fence posts he got the wood from are 60 years old.
Old steel, old wood make a good combination.

Cabelas.
As for time involved, it's probably a good thing I don't keep track of it.

threebeards, I soften the steel for doing all the work, then re-harden and temper.

I agree Jay, your talents are amazing! Who'd have thought that old Iowa post could turn into something that beautiful!

I hope you are teaching someone your skills. They are truly a lost art.

Jay, someday I'm gonna make the pilgramage back to Big Red land just to pick your brain. I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are indeed gifted.

Thanks guys

Bonker, you are welcome anytime.
I know one thing though, knife smithing was a whole lot easier when I had a forge. Where ever it is I hope it's been put to good use.

Its still in my garage with a busted belt. I bought leather strapping to fix it, but I haven't done it yet. I've been thinking about just hooking up that other blower and do away with the "pump" blower but I can't remeber if that is even feasable.

Jay, it's been said once, I'll say it again, I hope some lucky guy is learning from you. Truly beautiful work.

Bonker never wrote a more true phrase. Round here Bonker would be called "special" though.

Jay- I've seen better pictures from you, as nice as those look, I'm not sure the pictures do them justice. Beautiful work.
