I drove out to my in-law's place yesterday afternoon to butcher a doe for them that was shot on Saturday. This is also the place where I bowhunt and shotgun hunt. As I get to where I can see their drive, I also notice two trucks parked next to each other in the middle of the road. I slowed down and waited for the oncoming truck to move so I could get by. As I'm waiting, I notice another vehicle down the other road that T's into the one I'm on. Long story short (sorry, already made it long), the vehicle facing me pulls away, leaving one hunter standing next to his truck, right in the middle of the road with his gun out. As I start to pull around his truck, he fires his gun into straight up into the air. Keep in mind, I don't know the guy and he's about 15 yards in front of my truck. I pulled up and ask what he's doing. He said they had a cripple in the property I hunt and were trying to push it back to their place. I then see 6 healthy deer run the opposite direction, back to the farm he said they were hunting. All other vehicles make a mad scramble in that direction. He then proceeds to tell me there was a monster buck in the group. This somewhat made me think he was full of it about the wounded deer. Don't get me wrong. I'm not against chasing big deer, and appreciate anyone who pursues a wounded animal, but firing a loaded weapon from the middle of the roadway 15 yards in front of someone's vehicle made me mad. Not to mention he shoots the thing right into the air, having no idea where his slug will land. (he did that to scare the deer back to where they came from)
Sorry to rant. I'm a bowhunter and shotgun hunter and really get tired of guys like this. I can't imagine if someone that doesn't hunt had this guy fire a slug in front if them. The farmer who lets me hunt knows these guys somehow and knows they occasionally cross onto his place. That's why I didn't freak out on the guy. Didn't want to burn my bridges. I think I'll let the farmer know. Keep in mind I don't want to start any trouble, but I thought about calling the DNR.

Found two does laying 50 yards off of the road in an alfalfa field at one of my spots. Both had a slug right behind the shoulder. Kind of hard to call the DNR when my first suspect is the guys that let me hunt.

We get that crap all the time here. Next time just sit off the road . Take your cam corder and just hand the footage to the dnr. Can't wait for rifle doe season

S-L-O-B! I think I would turn him in and take my chances. Somehow I think your landowner would understand, its hard to argue with whats right.

Landowner is going to hear about it for sure. I think if the DNR gets into it, it may start a war.

I had something similiar happen to me during shot gun season. I watched some guys after 4 deer in a mile section. One starts to head back towards were I was (in my truck). A Blaser flies up the road and this guy gets out with his gun and takes two shoots at the deer from the road. There was a house right to the north of him and one to the east, didn't bother him at all. Another thing that gets to me is the lack of respect they show towards land owners! I know alot of them never ask to hunt the property they hunt and drive their trucks all over on. This really annoys me!

I remember once when I was pretty young riding snowmobile with my dad and coming up on a car parked on the side of the road on the other side of the road there is a hen pheasant jumping round after being shot by a .22
We picked up the pheasant and got the plate number and called the dnr.
My dad said this guy also stopped right in front of their house once and shot squirrels right out of their trees.
Poachers & slob hunters go no time with me.

I was coming home one night this year and about 300 yards from my driveway was a truck parked in the middle of the road. I noticed in my lights a guy walking out of the ditch.....it was way past legal shooting time. I decided to give him [censored] b/c you have to be 500 metres from an occupied building to shoot here. Well just my luck it is the guy who owns the 100 acres or so across the road from house, he said there was BIG buck standing by the pines and he whistled one at it but claimed he missed. Now, he was too close to my house and shooting way after dark but what's a guy to do. This guy lets me hunt there when I want, shed hunt there when I want and aside from being a slob hunter is a good neighbour. Sometimes our best interests go against our best interests as a hunter. What do you do, I for one kept quiet and bitched to my wife about slobs..........again!
