Anyone here with Lyme?

This post makes my skin crawl... my theory on ticks is use as much prevention as you can. Under armor bottoms and top tucked in and then spray down with tick repellant. Tuck the shirt into the pants which are tucked into the boots and then sprayed. Cinch the belt down tight and hope for the best.

Then spray again and hope that all the ticks crawl up your turkey hunting partners.

Anyone know the best Tick repellant you can get?

[/ QUOTE ]

The best? I use two brands, one for skin contact and one for clothing only. Sawyer insect repellant I put on my clothes and it is said to be good for 6 weeks with one treatment, regardless I reapply daily. Ben's Tick & Insect repellant is what I spray on my legs and arms. I pulled zero ticks off my body last year but did find two on the outside of my pant legs one day. I've found the best defense against ticks is to hunt with people who attract them. jkratz pulled no less than 15 off himself in the first 5 minutes we sat down, he attracts them like stink attracts flies... gross.

Pulled 2 off my arm here in SE Iowa today. I hate them damn things!!!! I'm going to budder-up with some anti-tick juice from now on!

I sure hope everything works out for you iowabucks.

Now...not to be a dumb northerner but how on earth do animals go about avoiding them, you'd assume anything that doesn't have a human hand to help it out would be screwed.

For whatever reason, I rarely have a tick embed itself. I find plenty on and under my clothing each year, but can only think of a few times in my life I've had to dig one out. Now leeches have been another story.

My father in law tested positive with both tests. He had no success with antibiotics and has to take anti inflammatory meds for his joints. His knees get the worst.

I'm one of those unlucky souls that attracts ticks like no other. I think that it is my sweat, it just smells so sweet.

After last years heavy run-ins with the nasty things, I read up as much as I could. One thing I read, and I don't know how true it is, said that a tick must be attached to you for at least 24 hours before you are at risk of getting Lymes if it is carrying the disease. Have any of you heard this before? After reading this it eased my mind A LITTLE, and made me twice as vigilant at checking myself after every outing.

Yeah I've heard of several methods of removing them... does anyone know of the best way to do it? And Saskguy.... Animals just have them I suppose... once they are full of blood, they fall off. I suppose the animals just have to deal with them

Can you get a lyme test at any hospital? Do you remember the cost of the blood work? I have some of those symptoms and wouldn't mind getting checked.

The kids and I didn't get any ticks last week, but my one wirehairhad two on her. Someone mentioned using Sawyer on Under Armor...OK...hold back those comments....what about pantyhose sprayed down with Sawyer and sprayed jeans over that...I'm thinking keeping cool in the summer months, with "protection". Then under armor for a top??
Ok, let's hear it.....

[/ QUOTE ] I know that on dogs the ticks swell up and fall off when gorged. I have caped out deer that were literally covered with hundreds of deer ticks and I don't know how they keep from getting infected with Lyme? A quick tip, once your deer is caped and starting to cool down, get it in a garbage bag and set it in the freezer so you don't have a bunch of them little S.O.B.'s crawling around in your shop!

niteboy2 ----- On all the lyme forums i have read, they say go with a reputable lab. Some better labs know exactly what to look for. Igenex is the best, they are out of California and will let you send your sample in to them. They specialize in Lyme and other tick bourne diseases. Check out their website. I believe it is still in the $300 range. Not cheap, but it's still fairly expensive whichever way you go. I'm sure your doctor could order one for you too through their lab if you request. Labcorp is another good one, and is the one my doctor went through. Like i said, the western blot test is alot better than the elisa test.

If you think you have some symptoms, it wouldn't hurt to try and suggest a test. Thats how i did it after my doctors kept giving me wrong diagnosis after another.
