The girl at Menards called her manager to make sure pepper mixed with paint would not explode........I was beyond entertained.

Pruned heavy last winter. Didnt get it this winter again. UNREAL how many new shoots it sent out. This tree is at the pinnacle of its existence in my backyard.

I planted two Johnathan’s this evening after work to add to the three I planted in this plot last year. Sprinkled a fair amount of the fungus spore stuff around them to hopefully set back the jap beetles. Maybe i’ll get a couple more this weekend.

Is the goal of pruning to get the tree to grow out rather than up?

No. Branches growing straight up break and can’t support weight well. & don’t get sunlight spread out well. Branches with good angles can support weight of fruit.
