If you're out stepping an area off a good rule of thumb is that a rectangle 100 yds. by 50 yds. gets real close to an acre...

An acre is 208x208 = 44000 sq feet.
A mile is 5280'. So 5280 x 5280 is 27,878,400 sq ft divided by 640 acres is 43,560 sq ft in an acre.
Imagine a Football field, darn near same exact size
So I guess if I can shoot out to 50 yards with my bow I am effectively covering 1.62 acres.
