After three years, I finally came home with an antelope. He's no record breaker, but he wil look nice on my wall.

Way to go. That's a great looking speed goat!

I'm headed out to Laramie, Wyoming, a week from tomorrow (9/28) to hunt antelope with a rifle. It will be my first time chasing pronghorns.

Congrats! They do make interesting mounts, I've actually had people ask me if I went to Africa.

But I got mine the 'easy' way @ 200 yds with a rifle. More of a trophy with a bow - way to go.

Way to go kelcher. I'd be interested in hearing the details. What do you have to do to get it done with a bow?

Congratulations!

The only lasting "trophy" I recall from my one antelope hunt was a smell in the back of my truck (enclosed with a topper) that never did go away

Thanks for the compliments everybody. I really recommend this hunt as a nice change. There are thousands of these guys in Wyoming and you can see them all day long. The problem is getting close. We've tried stalking, decoying, and sitting in blinds. I ended up getting this one out of a blind. Practice a lot and if you can, be prepared for 50 yard shots. I know that seems like a looong shot for us here, but you'll be thankful if you can get there consistently. Luckily this one offered me a 30 yard shot. they are really neat looking animals, I'm glad I finally got to look at one up close. As for how the steaks taste, I'll let you know later this fall, but I'm sure they won't compare to nice Iowa doe backstraps. Good luck this fall!

I'm with you Kat!
I've had them in the back of my mine for along time.
Any other members have the how too's
I'd do it instead of another bear hunt.

A spot and stalk method is certainly possible when hunting Antelope, provided that one use’s the terrain to ones advantage. While approaching antelope try to walk directly at them, not off to the side of them. They have very good eyesight and usually travel in numbers and will immediately pick up on horizontal movement made by the hunter.

During the rut a decoy is a very effective way to lure in a territorial buck within bow range.

I have found that hunting water holes in a ground blind or in a windmill over the watering hole or water tank to be the most effective method of harvesting them.

An excellent spot to ambush a goat is at a location were they crawl under a fence. They can jump fences but they seem to prefer to go under them. They will walk a fair distance to crawl under a fence at an easy location.

There is a good deal of public hunting/BLM land in Wyoming. Certainly some of the bigger bucks are on private property, however on can reasonably expect to see a fairly large number of 14-15 inch antelope on some of the public hunting areas.

I hope this helps, and good luck.
