Chestnuts shot up HUGE this year and we were able to harvest over 10lbs and we're starting them as seedlings for the ranch. We brought the kiddo to see the Iowa farms for the first time.

The first pic is 2024, the second is 2023, and the third is 2019.

The trees would be 8 years old this year. The others are all over 12' now and producing. We got them all from Skip @Sligh1 as 8-12"

After a couple weeks they've finally started growing! I have about 80 chestnuts growing right now and ready to put a couple dozen around the ranch. We're supposed to get some snow this week so I'm hoping to plant them by the 12th.

I have about 30 that have started roots after stratification. Exciting! I just got them planted and am waiting impatiently for them to sprout. Planning to grow a couple along our river bottom next to our house on the ranch. We're planning to harvest as many chestnuts as we can in Iowa this fall.

Ozark Chinquapins have put on exceptional growth this year. They’re out of the tubes now.

This American Chestnut had some blighted areas this summer that are now fully healed.

Flowering Ozark chinquapin. I'll be pulling some scions off some other ozarkensis to graft to this "tree" for cross pollination.

Think these were started March 11. They are the first seed chestnuts from trees I started from bought seed 8 years ago. Only had 4 failures out of 36.
