Coon hunters, Dogs, and Deer

I hunt a couple areas that see a bit of coon hunting with dogs at night. The one area in particular I have is about 150acres and is part of a 1200 acre block of hardwood timber. This time of year guys run dogs through there probably once every 7-10 days and follow on mules.

I don't know how this is affecting deer movement in my area. Is it running deer completely off the property, not bothering them at all, or having only a minor affect on deer behavior? I can't decide.

What's your take on coon hunting and how they affect your hunting in the day or two after they've run dogs through a tract

I'm all for guys baggin some coon, I'm just wondering how it might be affecting deer movement in my neck of the woods
 
Well most the deer should b feeding at this pont so I don't think that the light traffic will bother them... If you have a giant chunk they can get to and turn gohst, that always helps... Unless they are the NUTBALL coon guys that really get crazy with things, I would'nt worry.
 
Coon hunting is pretty popular as well as coyote hunting with dogs in my area.

I've watched deer react in dayight hours to the sound of dogs, they get up, prepare to flee but watch and listen intently. When dogs move on by without getting to close to them they just return calmly to their beds as if nothing happened.

Deer almost never leave their home area for any reason, even when chased, they quickly return so as 250 notes...no worries. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
 
It's not the coon hunting that bothers me, it's the trespassing and then the pile of carcasses left in my driveway (30 or 40)that pisses me off!
I threw a couple of guys off of my land a few years ago, but they still pay me a visit every year.
Sheriff really doesn't want to get involved either. I guess my tax money really is going for donuts and coffee.
 
I agree with dbltree i dont think you have much to worry about unless they have deer running dogs..To have coon carcasses dumped at anyones place is just uncalled for and they need a good kick in the crotch..It only takes a few to give the rest a bad name.
 
My stand on the issue has kind of been the same as you all have said. I know they guys that coon hunt the area and they have told me when deer see them or the dogs they sit and watch or trot off a little ways.

I've always thought that any deer that got jumped by the dogs or hunters would just circle back and shortly would be back feeding again in my food plots or hangin out in the timber. I was just curious to see what others thought.
 
I don't think coon hunting hurts much if they are good coon hunting dogs, now deer running coon dogs are the worst around. Its sounds like a huge piece, I wouldn't worry about it.
