Croc Hunter dies

[ QUOTE ]
I for one am not too suprised. It is a shame.

[/ QUOTE ]

Same here, seems that something like that was bound to happen.

It was only a matter of time. The guy was a nutcase and a really bad example with his constant harrassing of wlildlife. I feel bad for his family but maybe it will jolt some reality into his fans.

That is depressing. You gotta admit, it was quite entertaining seeing a guy so pumped about holding the world's deadliest [insert creature here].

Since I had a lot of time to think this mornign while running I couldn't help but feel sorry for his baby boy which will now grow up without a father. You'd think that even an adreneline junky would slow it down once there was a kid to look after?

Crazy that was a stringray. Normally there pretty easy going. People swim with them all the time. I wouldn't have been suprised if it was a croc or deadly snake.

I feel bad for his wife and kid.

I think some of you guys are a little off base with this. Calling him a "nutcase" or "adreneline junky". Are we not all "passionate" about whitetails? Isn't that what this guy was? Passionate? IMO he brought animals we didn't know much about mainstream. His love and passion for his "sport" should be applauded. My prayers go out to his wife and kids.

Congrats Steve for bringing your passion to the masses.....You will be sorely missed......

Well said split. He was lucky enough to find a way to make a whole bunch of money doing what he loved. I wished I could do that.

Unfortunatly for his family, he also paid the ultimate price.

"Adreneline junky" is not a reach, "nutcase" might be. Timothy Treadwell on the other hand was a nutcase and an idiot.......

He also made a bunch of money educating the majority of americans and others that "Dangerous Animals" if properly respected are a great creatures also and dont have to be killed on the sighting of one.
It is unfortunate for the outdoor world to loose a great enthusiast to animals he educated us about. He surely did take PRIDE in his work. He died doing what he loved and hopefully when my time comes that my family can say the same about me, died doing what he loved, chasing the whitetails or turkeys depending on time of year.
Prayers go out to his family and young children.

Well said!!!!!

Enthusiasm = feigned excitment that was part of his act.

Passionate = Publicity hound.

Holding a month-old son in front of a hungry crocodile while feeding it with the other hand = Nutcase.

Thats to bad for his kids and wife. From what I understand it he didn't suffer. Hit in the heart with the barb on the tail. At least he was doing what he loved. Thoughts go out to his family.

Way too harsh there...

The guy started with absolutely nothing but a sincere passion for wildlife and wildlife conservation. He was in no way shape or form, a nutcase. He WAS in fact a well respected herpetologist in the scientific community, AND he was always the first to admit that - while he was a trained professional - wild animals are best left alone in their natural habitat. Given the chance to speak from beyond the grave, I'd bet the first thing he'd say would be that his death was not the fault of the sting ray, as he was in it's territory and it was only reacting to a perceived threat.

In case you were not aware, he donated every cent he made from his movie to conservation efforts in Australia.

I admired the guy. Did what he loved, and because he loved it, not for money or fame. If you believe that he was in it for the money, you don't know a thing about the guy. You even watched his show before?

For anyone to say he got what he deserved should be ashamed of themself. That's like saying a bowhunter who dies in a fall deserved what he got. Have a friggen heart man!

I haven't heard anyone anywhere say he got what he deserved and there is talk about it all over the internet on hunting and fishing message boards.

Avidhunter can we agree to disagree?
