Deer in the Corn!?

Usually the deer seem to stay on the beans and alfalfa until the beans turn yellow in mid September. I was frustrated after checking the cameras and went on a hike.

I busted 10+ deer out of a corner of a corn field and there were lots and lots of tracks on the edges.

Moved a cam or two and we will see what shows up.

Just curious what you guys are seeing right now as far as feeding patterns.

Right now there is food everywhere and nailing them down is tough. I have noticed a real lack of the mast (acorn) crop this year while in the timber lately.

Any thoughts???

I read an article one time that said deer prefer corn in the tasseling stage?? Is that where it's at now?? I don't have a clue, we only grow rocks here.

ive seen alot of acorns on the ground in the last week but i dont think the deer know because im still only seeing them in the soy beans and on the edges of cornfields... im assuming they hit the acorns at night but im not seeing them during the morning or evening around them

All the deer are in the corn around here. Been putting trail cams on the edges of them and in some cases right out in the middle of the corn field.

90% of the deer I am seeing in the last week are in alfalfa fields. The soys are starting to mature and my deer sightings in them have bottomed out.

I think they prefer it from the moment it comes up

I've been seeing them in the alfalfa also, but we have a corn field along our driveway and they are ripping the ears off already. Not coons either, they have to pull the stalk down...the deer just rip the ear right out.

There are a few acorns on our oak in the yard but not like last year.

I would have to say corn also around my place. There is also an alfalfa field that they are hitting pretty good too.

I have been seeing a lot of deer going to and from the corn fields. I was setting stands last weekend and watched a dozen going into the corn and bust two coming out. I know they feel pretty safe when the corn is still standing.

I have mainly seen them in clover & alfalfa, except for the doe, fawn and small 8 that visit the apple tree every night.

I have been seeing them in the alfalfa fields. I just started seeing them there last week.

I always find it interesting to see how a change in location shows such a diff. in feeding patterns. Granted, we do not have corn or acorns or soybeans but the deer are always in the alfalfa and field peas. Unlike soybeans, the deer really seem to hit the pea fields when they mature, not before. They go crazy for the ripe little peas, makes me wonder why they show such little interest to mature beans.

Saskguy, one of my favorite places to find deer is a late soybean field when the weather turns cold. Even a stubble field will bring 'em in pretty good. One place I hunt, the farmer has a pretty old combine that leaves lots of beans and tall stalks, deer come from all over to feed there in Nov.

The deer have been spending the days/evenings in the corn in my area. At night they head out to the alfalfa and soy bean fields. We are catching them at all hours of the day on the trail cam along corn field edges.
