Dipping while on stand.

Do any of you dip while hunting and what do you spit in? I haven't ever dipped while hunting but think I need to start to calm myself down.

Being the 'scent fanatic' I am, I know I shouldn't...but, I do. Copenhagen and I just swallow. A couple of years ago I was trying to quit and had some "herbal chew". I've never been winded so much in my life

...guess it just didn't have that aroma that Copenhagen gives off

I gut copenhagen on stand and get rid of the spent dip in a ziplok baggie. Breath thru you nose and that will cut down on the scent given off. Also, make your own wet naps with paper towels and the Ghost spray and wipe your hands off after putting in a dip. I don't have many issue with deer smaelling me when I am chewing.

Copenhagen dip in on every deer I have shot in the last 15 years.

Fresh Cope - It satisfies since 1822

Plus, its fun to try and spit on deer under your stand you don't want to shoot!

I dipped Cope for many years. I'd swallow what it in or out of the stand for the most part. Killed some good bucks while doing it. Deer probably don't relate the smell of it to humans. On the other hand it is an unfamiliar smell they may react to.
I quit about 7-8 years ago. best thing I ever did. Consider it, not just as a hunter.

As for thinking it would calm you down. I'm left wondering what the hack has you so hyped up? I find it relaxing and calming, even boring at times!
I dipped ALOT! I don't think it would ward off buck fever.
Anxiety and the control of it is just another facit of hunting that must be delt with.
If you need a nicotine fix while hunting take a small gatorade bottle along for spit and spent chew.

Yep...shouldn't but do...haven't had any negative reaction that I am aware of...don't that often but it is nice once in a while.

Scout after sitting for 4 hours I seem to get a bit antsy. Thats all I am talking about. I think a nice enjoyable chew could put me at ease.

Sitting four hours wouldn't make me a bit antsy, four hours without some cope and I would be shak'n myself out of the tree. Ya, I know exactly what you mean!

I put in a fatty in the stand there is alotta down time sometimes and its nice to chew and relax and enjoy the outdoors. smoking wouldn't work out so well so you gotta do as we say PUT IN A HHHHOOOOOGGG!

I chewed for four years and the only reason I quit was simply because it was having an effect on my deer hunting. Besides the fact I believe deer do smell it, I have been able to put 40bucks a week back into my pocket for something worth while like new hunting stuff or a tank of gas.

I don't dip or smoke but recall reading that some people who have kept deer as pets have noticed that the deer like to eat tobacco. I think the owners fed them cigarettes. One buck got a little feisty with the owner if he didn't get his cigarette. I can see it now, food plots of tobacco, getting the deer hooked on nicotine.

I dont know about that JNBRONC If a human ate a ciggarrette. I think it would be lethal.

Fred...you were getting "winded" a lot because of chewing? I'm just wondering what you mean by "it was having an effect on my deer hunting."

Don't get me wrong, without question, I understand that they can smell it. If the wind is not in your favor they are going to smell you.

Is it better not to chew at all, yes.

Just curious about your experiences because I very rarely get winded. I am a scent free nut, then I pop in some snuff and chew away, doesn't make much sence

What did you used to chew? Wintergreen is the worst!

I don't chew, it makes me dizzy!

I do however confess to partaking in the odd cigarette. On occassion I've had them while in the stand or blind when things are slow. I've had deer within spitting distance a few times while one was lit up.
I'm not saying that the smoke or chew will not bother them I just feel that if you play the wind right it doesn't matter what you're doing, if you play it wrong and you're not chewing or smoking, you're nailed!!!

When I said it was having an effect on my deer hunting it was mostly from a financial point. I hear guys all the time whining because they cant afford a new bow or gun but then they flush away alot of money each week on chew. I never chewed in the stand the last couple years I did it, but the desire for a chew made me want to sit still for a shorter amount of time. After about two or three hours I would be biting my nails for one. Im such a nut about scent control I didnt even want to have the smell of chew even be a possibility of why I never got a big deer. Now I can sit for as long as I want without feeling that urge anymore. Its honestly one of the major things that i believe has made me a better hunter.

I didn't advocate people eating cigarettes, just saying I have read that deer like to. I learned my lesson when I was younger and gave "scrap tobaccy" a try, I didn't spit. Once I was chewing a big wad of Redman while driving a riding lawn mower. The horizon started to tilt like I was on a ship. Had to stop the mower, roll off and toss my lunch. When I was able to climb back on the mower, I threw the pouch ahead of it and ran it over. Last time I chewed. I bet the same thing would happen if a person tried to eat a cigarette (purge it) but your going to have to find someone else to try it out

Deer being ruminants, eating tobacco might be different for them.
