Share this. This will make a huge difference. They are monitoring this closely & this is why they took the time to add this link. We need awareness of this link & we need folks to report #’s!!!!!! This data will adjust deer quotas & also be a very important data point for the DNR to have while working with legislators. Pass this to everyone you know!!!! Report em!!!!!! Takes maybe 60 seconds.

We need #’s to start to somewhat get to a fraction of reality. The dnr understands the vast vast vast majority of deer go un-reported. We need the data when discussing impact with legislators - especially those that want all deer eradicated. I spoke with a guy who found just under 20 deer. Another guy on here who found 12 bucks. All on one farm. As this new link gets to more people- the data will get more impactful.

Wow, it was at 400 last night. 19 more just this morning

I did not know they had this set up. ( I'm sure most hunters do not).

Good info. Thanks for sharing

Like the options to submit location/photos

Just reported the 2 I've found on one of the farms i rent. Found around 20 last year, which is a ton compared to our deer population. Hopefully don't have a bunch die again this year.

I think this is a great idea but who decides if it is an actual EHD death? Do they take the word of the hunter sending it in, or do they send a DNR official to investigate..I just wonder how accurate the results are since some deaths are caused by other things. Obviously, a death in a pond or creek is a good indicator, but not 100%.

I completed a report after locating a deer I had seen 48 hours earlier. Other than the saliva that was dripping out of his mouth, he appeared alert and healthy. He was in a drainage ditch that held a few pools of water.
To address some of your questions….
I included an email address and phone number. I never heard from anyone. My answers were specific and pointed towards EHD, in my opinion. Maybe that’s one reason I wasn’t contacted, and it’s likely they’re terribly, terribly busy.
It’s been a while but one question was whether or not the deer was found in or near water. There were questions about general location in the county, etc, date, sex and I believe age of the deer (fawn, adult, etc). There was an area for a description of what took place, etc.
I would think they look for certain things that point to EHD, but I don’t know.

I know for a fact that they will not adjust quota based on Ehd deaths. Our last major outbreak in Warren County removed over 50% of our deer herd. I went to the Dnr meetings and heard all the bullshit. Season had not opened but they refused to reduce quota that fall. They said no reduction could be made until the following year. Well guess what, they increased the quota the next year. I’ve been finding them the last couple weeks but I’m done reporting them. It’s all about the revenue. They didn’t learn when we kept harvesting pheasants as the population was plummeting. We will continue to decimate our heard to nothing.

Western iowa antlerless went to zero after last years outbreak.......

This link is here for very good reason. The dnr is very much engaged & wants to change where change is needed. This link was sent to me by the top dog at dnr & we had a great discussion on how important this is to get to public & how this will change policy. Without data - they can’t do anything. With data- they now have ammo & are willing to push for changes. We don’t have a perfect DNR but our dnr is light years better than other states. They want us to provide the data so they are better able to help us. This is rare but good example of “GOVERNMENT WORKING”!!!!

From my limited time in stand, seem to be seeing lots of fawns without a doe. Makes me wonder if Mom died of EHD, rather early for Mom to be out on a date.

Walk out after today’s hunt smelled that putrid death smell. Got to the truck, put the windows down to drive out the lane, hit another death scent stream. That’s the third on that property. Not seeing deer from the stand. Tomorrow will be a card pull day to see survivors. Next spring might be a bone yard scene like the last wave that went through.
