Hey guys.. i was wonderin.. i use fixed blades for my broadheads... but i want to try expandables.. but some people say "yea try it theyre great" and others are "dont waste your money.. half of them never expand on impact"... so im kinda lost.. i would like to buy some next season... just to see what they are like?? What kind of fixed or expandable blades do you use?? im using 100 gr. Muzzys (3 blade) and they work fine.. just wanna try new things! thanx

I am switching back to muzzys. I used to use the gold tip gladiators. they had a fixed blade and expandable so they were kind of in the middle. not a bad broadhead..does a number on turkeys. I only shot one deer with it and I spined her. good luck.

I shoot both expandables and broadheads. Two of the last three bucks I have taken have been with expandables. Currently in my quiver you will find Wasp Jakhammers and some old Bear broadheads. In my personal opinion, I do not think that it is possible for the Jakhammers to NOT open. Do a google image search for them and you will see what I mean. I shot two deer with Jakhammers this year and neither made it 60 yards after the hit.

Well, whatever you decide, you can't go wrong with Muzzys. CamoKid and I have taken several deer this fall with Muzzys, and every one has gone down in sight. Bottom line - good shot, dead deer.

I've shot 11 deer with 100 gr., 3-blade Muzzy's and have never lost a deer. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd stick with the sure thing.

Me and my buddy shoot spitfires. They have killed the deer we have shot. But this year his buck was standing broadside. He made a great shot. Hit a rib and the arrow caught front side lung, liver. and came out the guts. went 80 yards and crashed. but he was sick when he went to his arrow a had guts on it. My buck I had a beautiful quartering away shot. all anyone could ask for. made a great shot. after he ran 60 yards i couldnt understand why he wasnt crashing.after 300 yards of tracking found that i hit the 3rd rib from the back galnce off completely shredded the right side lung and went and barried in his chest.really dissapointed to say the least. I know that my 4 blade muzzys would have busted right through and probably came through back side shoulder. oh yeah and have yet to have a good bloodtrail with a spitfire.

a kid that live in colorado. that is fro m around here. came home for 5 days and shot 4 does and a buck. was shooting the aftershock broadheads with the 3 inch cut. lets just say they saved him a few deer. three inch is a lotta cut.

I would use a cut on impact fixed blade.

I use Steel Force broadheads. There are several other manufactuers who have jump on this design the past two year, Muzzy and NAP also have similiar heads designed like the Steel Force design.

I have never shot expandables and I don't plan on changing any time soon.

Good Luck.

I know that alot of people have sucess with expandables, but I personally won't ever use them. I shoot a 2 blade design out of my 50# recurve- either a Zwicky or Steel Force head. You just can't beat the penetration of a 2 blade. From my Trykon I shoot the new Magnus Snuffer SS 100gr. It is a one piece head similar to the Montec, and I love that head. I like that all 3 blades go to a single point, and the thing penetrates like crazy. It also has a lifetime warranty. I highly recommend it.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I shoot the same fixed blade broadheads that I have been for several years. However, I would not have a problem trying mechanicals should I ever have a hard to tune bow (but I am not expecting that to ever happen).

It is a very heavily debated topic among hunters for sure. I shot Zwickeys/steel force/magnus 2 and 4 blade heads for years and penetration was never an issue for me, what did always leave me scratching my head was the smaller holes these heads would leave, not that it mattered on "boiler room" shots, but I always wished I was shooting a bigger head on shots that were not in the "goody box".

I now shoot Wasp 1 3/4 expandables and have yet to have a bad experience and I think the big head has saved me some tracking night-mares on some less than optimal shot.

In a perfect world, I could get an original Rothaar snuffer to fly like a dart and not experience any drop at 40 yards, but for me thats just not reality.

In the end its a personal decision that your own experience will dictate the end result of.

Good Luck, there are plethera of good heads on the market today. This was not always the case.

I'm not sure how many Muzzy's I've put thru deer...but it's been a bunch.

Every year I look over all the expandables etc....and then just "go to work" with what I have faith in.

I think that's what it's all about...confidence in what you are using and what you and your bow can shoot well more then right/wrong or good/better.......

I shot mechs (Spitfires) for a while and never had a problem. They are a must for turkeys IMO. I stopped using them for deer because I got to thinking if I somehow do not get full penetration I would rather have a sharp fixed blade slashing around inside the deer then a closed mechanical.

I brought Rage two blades to the table this year and was rewarded with 1 buck and 2 does. Both does were pass-thru's. one broadside, the other quartering away. The Rage blasted thru one rib on entrance and one on exit, severing both on the broadside doe ,and on the quatering doe it entered the last rib and came out the front shoulder. The buck was a spine shot but the entrance was a perfect 10-ring.
