GAS prices?

I spend about $6.00 a week for gas to work and its starting to irritate me.... motorcycles are a wonderful thing.
My 13 mpg truck is another story. But, I shouldn't need it until Nov.

Just for the record its $3.15 today in Tulsa.

Not the environment stopping refineries, Oil Companies don't want to refine more, don't build anymore, would increase supply, lower their prices. I was staying out in WY with an outfitter, during the Jimmy Carter Oil "Crisis", Outfitter had a friend working at a refinery out there he talked to regularly. Refinery worker said Higher ups sent down the word,"Hold back supplies, keep the shortage going",.Same things go on today, you can be sure.

ethanol is the biggest american scam ever.....well maybe not the biggest, but still.....
the process it takes to produce ethanol is outrageous....
yes corn can run your car, but in the long run, it really isnt any cheaper....
ugggg again

They are building ethonal plants right and left where is all the corn going to come from. We Will be shipping it in from who knows where to supply the plants. Corn will skyrocket. Just my guess but i would bet money on it.

We really won't need that much more corn, the process of making ethonal doesn't lower the nutritional value of it. In other words you can still feed it to the cattle and hogs after you make ethonal.

True, but not straight corn gluten. I hear what the ethanol plant in Corning is going to burn annually, and there isn't enough corn in Adams county or all of the surrounding couties to fuel that thing for a year.

Or it could be....

A lot of folks can't understand how we came

to have an oil shortage here in our country.

~~~
Well, there's a very simple answer.
~~~

Nobody bothered to check the oil.

~~~
We just didn't know we were getting low.
~~~

The reason for that is purely geographical.

~~~
Our OIL is located in
~~~

ALASKA

~~~
California
~~~

Coastal Florida

~~~
Coastal Louisiana
~~~

Kansas

~~~
Oklahoma
~~~

Pennsylvania

and

Texas

~~~
Our
DIPSTICKS
are located in
Washington, DC !!!
Any Questions ???
NO? I didn't Think So.
How much of your oil is imported from Canada? I believe it is some. So..you're getting gas a hell of alot cheaper than we are....go figure. $1.17 a litre here today, that is about $4.60 Canadian a gallon or $4.25 U.S.
Just read in the N.Y times online that we are actually the largest exporter of U.S oil imports...and we pay way more for it than you....geesh.
Just curious, how much tax do you pay per liter?
The pumps in Iowa used to have a sticker on them that said "price includes tax per gallon". Not sure it it still does or not, but it used to have the actual tax listed and last I knew it was 11 cents a gallon. Not sure what it is now.
The 'Bonker
Gas tax-
Federal- 18.4 cents a gallon
PLUS
IA-21 cents for gas, 23.5 for diesel
KS-25 cents a gallon
MO-17 cents
So I am paying 43.5 cents a gallon to the government.
Talk about raping us. The boys in Washington need to look in the mirror when they question big oil about their profit margins. Because the Government's profit margin is sickening on gas...it's ALL profit for them
There is a local dude making his own from used restaurant fryer grease for about 50 cents/gallon. He uses it in a VW diesel car. I guess that is punishment enough!
Some guys down here are buying pure bean oil and making their own fuel. It cost them about 2 dollars a gallon, and then they get a goverment subsity for .50 cents a gallon. BUT, they have to keep very accurate records on how much they make, how much fuel they burn (they still buy some farm fuel, and some clear diesel), and pretty much where it goes.
The local dude I mentioned was featured in the newspaper. Shortly after the article, the state came knocking on his door for the road use tax that is in the price of gas at the pump. They made him pay retroactive on estimate......
I heard on the world news last night that New Yorkers pay $.61 a gallon in State and Federal tax per gallon.
I'm fighting back. I bought some USO today! Oil is down now, what will happen when it starts to go up. Can you say 4$/gallon. Oh yeah I drive 100 miles every day....thats fun!
Have you considered buying a Hybrid?
Gas prices aren't going down fellas... it SUCKS, but I see $4-$5 gas in the not so distant future... Surburbia as we know it will be a thing of the past. Hell I moved closer to where I work 2 yrs ago when gas hit $2, because I knew where it was heading. I'd rather pay an extra couple hundred bucks on a mortgage payment than lose it at the pump... at least mortgage interest is tax deductible. Hybrid or BioDiesel is looking better every day
PEOPLE LISTEN UP! It is not OPEC or the oil companies that are screwing us on gas prices, it is ENVIRONMENTAL WACKOS.
Supply and demand dictates gas prices. Gasoline consumption and gone way up in the last 20 years, but we are unable to build new oil refineries because of 10 years worth of law suits by all the nut jobs out there. Our refineries are running at 100% output and can't keep up with demand.
A year ago gas was at $3.00+ a gallon and oil was $75 a barrel. Now we are at $3.00 a gallon with $60 barrel prices. The price of crude is only a part of the problem. I don't remember anyone crying for the oil companies 15 years ago when crude was $10 a barrel and oil companies were going belly-up right and left.
Corn will not save us. More efficient cars will not save us. A BIG stick upside a few lefty skulls might.
[/ QUOTE ]
Very poorly worded... screwing the environment will surely screw us all. Weening ourselves off fossil fuels from the Middle East will save us... we have technology to build Hydrogen powered vehicles, but no one is developing that... because the huge oil companies would lose profits. I agree, Corn will not save us, Hybrids will help to slow the bleeding and ease some of the pain, but alternative, renewable energy is the only viable solution in the long run... that or "Beam me up Scotty" transporter technology
