LIVE IT UP!!!

Congrats,It's surprising how fast they grow up!My wife and two boys looked at pictures New Years eve that were saved from our fire.Alot of memories that could have been lost that sometimes we take for granted.

Congrats! Before you know it, you'll be hearing "grandpa grandpa, take us fishing! grandpa, take us hunting!"

Your replies jogged some thoughts.

First of all, the cost. When we started planning this weeding a few months ago, A girl who had recently gotten married told me it cost her parents over $12,000. I about fell off my chair. There is no way I was going to spend that much, even if I could. Cheri and I talked about it quite a bit and we decided how much we could afford to budget for it, and then we just gave her the money. I told her this is how much you have to spend and if you go over, you are spending your own money. She was pretty frugal and it was a beautiful wedding with over 300 people for a lot less than what you would expect. Still, I am grateful for having four boys and one girl.

Now on giving away a daughter. It was very emotional for me as there is an amazing bond between a daddy and his little girl. It's hard to put her in someone else's hands even when you know he is a great guy who really loves her. I spent a lot of time thinking about the times we spent together and wishing there were more of them. She has made me so proud. I got so much pleasure out of hunting and fishing with her, and watching her play basketball in high school and volleyball in high school and college. Just to let you kow what kind of a girl she is, I'll tell you this little story. State championship basketball game and her team got third place and she was named to the all-tournament team. I was way up in the stands, and as she walked out onto the floor to to receive her trophy it just suddenly hit me that I had watched her play her last basketball game. I broke down and began to cry. When she looked up and saw me crying, she actually left the lineup and ran all the way up into the stands and gave me a hug. Everybody in the place was staring and I was so embarrassed. Well I have gotten over the embarrassment because I now look at that as one of the highlights of my life. Yes there is an amazing bond between a daddy and his little girl.

Great memories - as precious as any in the field I am sure. Not doubt she is one tough young lady surviving with four brothers. I am sure your wife will miss her greatly.

Congratulations to both you and your wife. God bless.

Is it dusty in here, my eyes are watering. That is an awesome story, you are one lucky father!

As one of four brothers to one sister, I can promise you if your boys are any thing like us you don't have any thing to worry about putting her into someone else's hand's.

I agree.

Congrats to you on raising her right. My only daughter is 20, and she's not interested in hunting, so we do what she is good at - shopping and going out to eat. You are right about the bond. I just put her on a plane to London yesterday for a study program, and that was really, really hard. It was great to hear her voice last night when she arrived. Later, we found the really nice note that she left her mom and I. That was a tear-jerker. Again, congrats to you for being a great dad. I always tell my kids that we're not just raising them - we're teaching them how to raise their kids.
