Here we go again EHD????

Decatur county

That more aligns with CWD than EHD if you read up on the symptoms of each. It made it to Lucas County last year, so right in the neighborhood
That definitely crossed my mind. I had pics of him 3 days apart moving normally? No deer in the ponds. All other deer looked normal...I guess they die of all sorts of reasons(best case). My son killed a EHD survivor buck a few years back that was very thin like this but he went through hell getting there. Usually a blank stare with drool coming from their mouth. We'll see.

12 years ago we had pics of a nearly identical looking animal. Thought for sure he would've been dead 5 minutes after the pic. 2 months later the neighbor harvested the buck. In the harvest pics he looked full rut and perfectly healthy. A big 160+ 8 pointer. I was pretty shocked.

I think we as hunters are part of this equation by fear factoring one and other. Think about how many trail cameras each of you run today compared to 5 or even 10 years ago. Take that times the number of hunters in Iowa and that’s how many more trail cameras are being deployed. Throw in cell cameras, and a deer hardly moves without someone knowing it.

EHD hits us every year. Some worse than others. Just the norm now unfortunately……..

In the last 2 weeks I’ve found 4 so far this year. 2 of which were in my pond the last 2 days; one buck and one doe . Watched the doe walk in circles in water up to her neck, eventually slipping under and splashing for a few seconds then die. With the forecast this is just the start of it. Such a depressing feeling.

Put up a couple more cams Friday afternoon, one on the south side of a pond and no sign or smell while crossing the dam. The other farm I did not make it down to the river but have also haven't heard anyone finding anything so far. This is in southern Warren County.

I smelled one on the West property line of pickard park (indianola) last week near the creek crossing. Couldn't spot it, but the smell is unmistakable. Might have been just over the fence into private ground. Didn't look terribly hard

It’s getting really bad last couple days. I found 4 on one farm in southern Warren county. Have noticed significantly more buzzards flying around, less deer on camera. Fixing to be a crappy fall if this weather doesn’t change and change fast. I know guys in Dallas county getting slammed too.

Also located in S warren Co & Have also noticed a lot of birds in the sky but not many perched up. Flying looks bad but imo they are looking not finding when flying.

Did kick about 25 buzzards off a fresh 1 but wound up being a neighbors youth deer that got away...

Was glad to find what I did. Was assuming differently.

Had a neighbor tell my brother that he saw his target buck acting goofy and stumbling and struggling to get up. Went back to look couple hours later and he was gone or just dead/laid up in tall CRP or wooly ditch. He went back to look in the bottom of the ditch today and found five more that had been dead for awhile, does and couple bucks before shedding velvet. Also a fresh one, new in past 24 hours. The particular ditch makes 8 now on 80 acres and haven’t looked all that hard. NWMO.
