High gas prices/hunting

Just curious as how these ridiculous gas prices are going to affect everyones hunting this fall.I know a lot of people who drive a ways to hunt so is this going to change with gas prices???

Makes my upgrade to a full size truck seem not so wise now! The thing sucks down gas. Cost me $55 to fill it yesterday.

Not really at all! I'm still going wherever. Its really not that much more of a difference on a per month basis that I'm going to worry about it.

Based on inflation its still cheaper than it was in 1981.

I don't like it, but what are you going to do.

I heard that per 15000 miles its an extra 700$ does that sound right?

It wont affect my deer hunting at all, since I dont hunt much more than a mile from home. But, our usual 6 day a week January/February coyote hunt will come to a screeching halt with these prices. 8-9 mpg (dang Dodge!) 4WDing through the snow 50 miles a day would get awful spendy at $2.50 a gallon. Cripes, I complained last winter when it was around $1.70. All for a $5 coyote! We usually spot and stalk, or track 'em, but you have to find something to work with first. I know its not that much money in the grand scheme of things, but at some point the cost just takes the fun out of it.

I'm guessing you'll see fewer coyote hunters this winter if prices stay up.

15000 miles divided by 15 mpg (that's what my truck gets)= 1000 gallons of go juice. I guess it depends on what price you're comparing the current price to. If the price has increased a dollar then it would be $1000.00 per year increase which is an $83.00 per month increase in gas spending for one vehicle.

What was the price per gallon this time last year?

It will change my hunting considerably.
I usually get an either sex bow tag, a season choice tag that is good for does only and good for any season, and a muzzleloader either sex tag.
I generally hunt the bow tag hard, the season choice and muzzleloader tags are done at a much more leiserly pace.
This year I'll get a season choice and hunt what ever season is open at the time when I am in the area. Muzzleloading season is a month long and I'll scale my number of hunts for that season down as well.
I'll also try to have all day hunts instead of driving there for morning hunts then coming home and then returning for the evening hunt.
Hate to do it but there is no other choice for me.

Rack, I think the price a year ago was around 1.85 By bow season, the way things are going it will be a dollar more than last year.

Now you guys see why I drive a white saturn hunting that gets 32 MPG and I can still fill up for 20 bucks and get 300 miles a tank

now that I live in southern Iowa I here it is common to see cars runnin around with deer strapped to the hood, roof, trunk, passenger seat or back seat. I will fit right in

It pisses me off just thinking how much money i will drop this fall on gasoline. But hey, you only live once and I'm not missing any hunting!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife drives 180 miles round trip every day to work, so I am used to getting "HOSED" at the fuel pump. One thing we have done is get a credit card with a decent return precentage. Over a years time we rack up about $300 on cash back rewards by using the card. Keep it paid off every month so you don't pay their hight interest rates and it helps a little.

I'm heading to Ear Falls, Ontario for a bear hunt this Friday. The extra cost of gas is a bummer. At least there's 4 of us to split the cost. Anybody know what the price of gas is in Canada?

Last time I was in Canada the gas price was comparable to what it was in the states... except that it is sold by the Liter!
shocked.gif
I'm gonna guess your gonna pay $1.50-$2.00 a liter.

LIV would have to shoot one first.

The price hasnt slowed me down yet, I just like being broke all the time. I dont like to say I told you so, but....THANKS GW!

I know what gas is here. About $1.07 a litre, you're gonna pay more in Ontario I'd think. That is almost $4.00 U.S a gallon. It won't affect my hunting much, I hunt close to home but it affects our everyday life. We drive 15 miles into work each day, sometimes having to take 2 vehicles. Times just keep getting tougher and tougher it seems for us here. Beer is running us about $24 a dozen, chew is about $10 per tin. My brother bought a pack of red man this summer...........$14. Prices of stuff here is getting beyond belief, if it keeps this way, we're in for a recession for sure.

$24 dollars for a case of beer? What kind are you drinking? I can get 30 packs of BUSCH LIGHT on sale for $12.99 at Super Wal-Mart. Dang, there go my hopes of ever moving to Canada. My wife would make me quit drinking!
grin.gif

Skully...ready for some further shock...you misread his post...that was $24 per dozen...or a twelve pack.
grin.gif

I get shell shock every time I go to Canada fishing. We fly in 20 cases of Blue in bottles. Then, the last trip I ran out of Copenhagen on the float plane ride back to Red Lake. Bought a can for $10 and it was half the size of a can in the U.S.

Thanks for the gas info. I'm assuming that was $1.07 CA Funds, even so $4.00 per gallon is pretty steep - I thought we had it bad here in the lower 48! Gonna be sure to bring a case of barley pop with as well.

Ghost, 20 CASES! Dang I gotta start hangin out with you guys! Sounds like you know how to have fun.

I may have to have a couple tonight while I can still afford it!
