How many guys use your bow for your

[ QUOTE ]
This is a very interesting topic since up here in MN the rut is dominated with guns. I've been arguing the gun season during the rut point since the day we stepped foot in this state. It really is just plain rediculous. From what I can tell about MN, it's like the bowhunters don't even exist. I heard a guy called "Dr. Deer" on one of the morning radio shows during gun season. He basically stated that deer hunting was over as soon as the muzzleloader season ended. If I could have reached through the radio and strangled him I would have. The bow season goes for another MONTH you idiot!! It just proved my point that bowhunters don't really count up here.

All the seasons up here just don't make sense when compared to Iowa - the only positive thing - you can still bowhunt up here during gun season but ya gotta wear orange.

Welcome to MN

! I'm afraid you arguements will fall on deaf ears. We still have 70's style management in place that is built for quantity not quality. It likely will not change any time soon. It is a complete joke!!!! That is why you need to start applying for IA and KS

I hear ya DOR. Honestly not even sure if I'll waste my time in my area next year...it's just frustrating as hell. Do you know if there is a MN bowhunters organization like the IBA?

What I keep telling myself - move to Iowa - problem solved. I should have moved when I had the chance but I was an idiot.

I've carried bow and ml at the same time during late season for several years. Just be aware that you do have to wear the hunter orange when doing this.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just make sure you have the orange on and also do not use your bow tag. If you do that, then as I understand it, you are breaking the law, even if you used your bow and even if you had the unfilled late muzzleloader tag with you.

He said as long as I had a valid tag for what I was hunting it was acceptable.

[/ QUOTE ]

better be damn sure you don't have any slugs in your pocket, or even in your truck, to be safe

Our local DNR said you can carry both. This was his response for this special doe season. Carry a gun ML or shotgun for the does out of bow range, should a buck come in and you have the tag = use your bow.

Maybe I mis-understood you, but it is perfectly legal to tag a deer with a valid bow tag during late ML season. Bow season only stops for shotgun, then re-opens. As stated, carrying multiple weapons is legal as long as you have multiple valid tags. You could fill both tags with the appropriate weapon on the same day. Same would go for early ML season.
I'm with Limb though, I carry enough crap already.

Perhaps you did misunderstand and perhaps I am wrong. It is OK to use the bow as a weapon with the late muzzleloader tag. Then, you can carry both weapons since they are both legal. However, the muzzleloader is not a legal weapon for your bow tag. Carry both weapons during late season and use your muzzleloader tag and you are OK no matter which of the two weapons you used. Take both weapons during late season and use your bow tag, and you are not OK, even if you shot it with your bow. Take both weapons during early muzzleloader season and you are breaking the law with you bow tag since you have an illegal weapon with you.

During both muzzleloader seasons, you can fill both tags on the same day, you just cannot have your muzzleloader with you while filling your bow tag. Again, I could be mistaken.

Any idea why the bowhunters in Iowa don't have to compete with guns in the rut or can use your bow in ML season?

Looked like the perfect spot for an IBA plug.

Seriously about every other year moving the gun season comes up.If your not a member you really should be.

I think a lot of people take things for granted...until it's too late

It's only because of the IBA's diligence in keeping firearms out of the rut...that we aren't in the same boat as every other state.

Lately the "boat" has been rocking... alot

As for carrying two weapons,…I have done it on occasion when trying to thin the "foodplot raiders"

I really prefer to quietly harvest as many as I can without them knowing from whence death came.

Every time a firearm goes off…the rest of them learn to avoid that runway.

It's just the thought of that 160 ambling along at 60 yards that sometimes finds me lugging the muzzy along

I see your point. I'd say we are both correct and wrong, because its kind of a gray area and might depend on which CO you run into that day. I.E., go back and read Buck10's reply. A shotgun isnt legal for a bow tag but he had a valid fall turkey tag and the CO said go for it, carry both. Either way I probably wouldnt go through the bother.
