How many guys use your bow for your

Hardcorehunter

Late season muzzleloader buck tag? I have always late season muzzleloaded for the extra buck tag but I prefer to bowhunt only. My taxidermist pointed out to me that I can fill my late season muzzleloader any sex tag with a bow. Sure as heck, I read the regs and he is right.Has this always been a law or something new? Any of you like me and prefer to bowhunt only with this tag?

I've been arguing for years that Nebraska should allow a similar thing during rifle season. They close bow season for 9 days during rifle season which usually coincides with the rut. So bowhunters don't get to hunt during the rut. My argument is that as long as I have a valid rifle season tag, it shouldn't matter what weapon I choose to carry. In other words, I should be able to fill my rifle tag during the rifle season using a bow. Unfortunately, the State of Nebraska doesn't see it that way. No bows during rifle season. Period.

That is why IA has more Boone and Crocket entries than any other state in the nation, NO GUNS during the rut. It is stupid that states allow guns during the rut. Ihave buddies in MO and MN that have the same complaints as you. Pretty cool that IA has the insight to know that if you want big bucks, don't allow guns during the rut. It is pretty well a no brainer.

Hey Nebraska I am totally with you on that. Would be GREAT if the state would finally change it. Otherwise what to do???

Here is a question along the same lines. If you can bowhunt during muzz season can you carry both a muzz and your bow both in the treestand during late muzz season.

I would think that you can but I would like to find out because I am contemplainting doing that if it's legal.

Nebraska,
Is there the chance that people could use the rifle to fill a bow tag, giving them essentially two rifle tags? Just an idea on why the DNR might not want you to be able to use a bow during rifle season.

Any idea why the bowhunters in Iowa don't have to compete with guns in the rut or can use your bow in ML season?

Looked like the perfect spot for an IBA plug.

Seriously about every other year moving the gun season comes up.If your not a member you really should be.

Talltines,
You cannot carry both weapons with you. It sure would be nice though. I called the DNR with that question and got a quick no.

Hey Breiner, I just called the DNR and they said Yes to carrying both. They are both legal weapons during late season muzzleloader. So is a handgun. Many guys carry both a handgun and a muzzleloader during late season so they have the option of using whatever they want. During late season muzzzleloader, you can sit in a tree with a muzzleloader, handgun, and a bow all at once according to the call I just made.

This is also the way I understand it. Any legal weapon for the season may be carried if you so desire... I have enough stuff to carry though...

Along those same lines I called my local C.O. about having a shotgun with me while bowhunting in case a turkey came along. He said as long as I had a valid tag for what I was hunting it was acceptable.

I hear you there limb chicken. I am just excited that I have the opportunity to harvest another buck with my bow. I get no pleasure from hunting deer with a gun and have just gone along with it cause of the extra buck tag. Yippy!!!!

Thanks HCH, That is great news. Now I wonder who the lady was I talked to at the Des Moines DNR HQ. She said she was positive that was not allowed. Miscommunication runs rampant in this world.

As they way things are now, the answer is "no." If you're bringing in something with a bow tag it had better not have a bullet hole in it.

The position of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is that Nebraska's rifle season is their primary deer managment tool. As such, the do everything they can to maximum hunters' chances of success during those 9 days (hence holding it during the rut). Bowhunters in this state take a back seat to the gun hunters. Money talks and the gun hunters buy most of the tags. I just don't see why I can't choose to "handicap" myself by using my bow to fill a rifle tag. I'd just love the chance to bowhunt during the rut.

I've carried bow and ml at the same time during late season for several years. Just be aware that you do have to wear the hunter orange when doing this.

This is a very interesting topic since up here in MN the rut is dominated with guns. I've been arguing the gun season during the rut point since the day we stepped foot in this state. It really is just plain rediculous. From what I can tell about MN, it's like the bowhunters don't even exist. I heard a guy called "Dr. Deer" on one of the morning radio shows during gun season. He basically stated that deer hunting was over as soon as the muzzleloader season ended. If I could have reached through the radio and strangled him I would have. The bow season goes for another MONTH you idiot!! It just proved my point that bowhunters don't really count up here.

All the seasons up here just don't make sense when compared to Iowa - the only positive thing - you can still bowhunt up here during gun season but ya gotta wear orange.

Does Nebraska have check stations? I keep forgetting about them since Iowa doesn't have them.

Yes. We've had check stations here since 1945 when the first deer season was held.

! I'm afraid you arguements will fall on deaf ears. We still have 70's style management in place that is built for quantity not quality. It likely will not change any time soon. It is a complete joke!!!! That is why you need to start applying for IA and KS
