I Got Worms....

THA4

A Few Steps Ahead Of You
Well, I don't have worms... but.....

I was butchering my buck today and this thing had worms all through it... Each quarter and both backstraps had lots of 4-5 inch very slender little worm like things all through the meat. I have never seen anything like it and to be honest it was disgusting... there was an odor with it as well

I hate to waste that much meat, but I was not comfortable feeding that deer to my family...

anyone else ever see this before??

How long was it dead before your recovery...I think from your story it wasn't long but I don't remember...

Didn't take pix... yuk. Deer hung for a full day in 45 degrees and up til 2 pm today and it never broke 40. So it didn't go bad....

Sounds gross.

Better safe than sorry. Sucks to let that meat go, but it's the right decision.

I'd report it to the DNR. They might issue you another tag.

I'd have tossed the meat, too. I know my wife wouldn't even consider letting me put it in the freezer.

I know a guy that tried that once, the DNR told him if he wanted USDA choice meat then he needed to go to Hy-VEE.

I know a guy that shot a buck and when he found it it had been totally eaten by coyotes. He called the game warden and got issued another tag.I would guess that a deer not fit for human consumption would be the same.THERE IS TO MANY DEER. remember?

I won't be asking for another tag. No need to be greedy, I had a great experience and got some great pictures. I will get a few more deer this year, perhaps another doe this week just for the freezer. It is unfortunate to not keep that meat, but it was gross...
