I hope I didn't make a mistake!!!!

Ah greed, one of the more famous sins.
"He would of been by far been the best deer with a bow for me. But I've seen better out there". With that quote I vote for the mistake side of the story. Sounds like you would of made a giant jump in your bowhunting career, and what's wrong with that? It seems it's getting to the point that people don't even sneeze at 130" to 150". 150" is a helluva an animal. IF the 150" was a 150".

hey homerj

you may be right. at the end of the season I may regret not taking this deer. but i don't concider holding out for one particular buck i have hopes for GREED. my best deer to date is a 140 inch 10 and this one was bigger than him. not alot, but he was bigger so i said he would go 150. and if i luck out and get the one i'm really after you would understand why i passed on this one.

I hope you get him also Moose. No harm intended, I'm just sittin' in the cheap seats observing. I hope to see anything close to that this year. Good luck.

Moose--"You'll never harvest a 170" if ya knock off all the 140-150's". If it wasn't time then let it go-don't ponder the fact. The area we live in, always has the potential for greatness.

May be makin'it sound like 150's are around every tree-- and they are not!
We are greatly blessed with some of the greatest whitetail habitat in the world.
However, you must never forget about pressure from adjacent landowners and their hunting practices.

By passing on a quality buck all you have insured is that he will live to see one more sunrise--and thats it!

The right choice for you on that day is always a gamble--sometimes you win and sometimes you make the neighbors happy.
If you are going to pass 150" class whitetails you already have big enough jewels to accept that you had your chance before anyone else. AND THATS FOR YOU AND ONLY YOU TO DECIDE.

Best of luck with a larger critter, and if you change your mind about the buck you passed--get another crack at him before Oct 25th, or he may begin to roam. Watch out for that WAUKON1

he,s an bowhuntin addict, just like the rest of us.

I have been fighting the same battle for a few years. Its just a fact that some passed bucks mysteriously disappear but MOST DO MAKE IT TO THE FOLLOWING YEAR.

M350 out

Moose, hats off to you letting a 150 class walk having your sights set on a larger buck in your area. I would have taken him as I have not taken a 150 class with archery. I have passed on bucks hunting in Wyoming that other hunters would shoot in a NY minute. I believe passing on bucks brings better opportunities your way in the future. You'll know you did the right thing when you reach down to grasp the antlers of that bigger one your hunting. Best of luck to you! OZ

I like the way M350 say's it. I am totally comfortable (sort of) with my letting him walk.

(Unless that scoundrel Waukon1, across the road shoots him)

Given that you have seen a bigger buck than the one you passed on, nuhtin wrong with passin.

In my situation, heavy hunting pressure, heavy poaching pressure, lots of traffic on near by highwyas and not much bow hunting experience, I would have taken him. I have passed on three dinks already, a fork, basket 8 (smaller than the one I got last year) and a six that was past the ears but no mass, not quite a basket but close. None were close to 150 so they walked. If I get a 150 this year, then next year I'll hold out for a bigger one. As a side note, about 30 minutes after I saw the six pointer I heard a lone shot about the distance it would have taken him to meander in 30 minutes. If I had a situation where I could control the heard and hutning pressure, I'd pass on the 150's every day. I can't so I won't.
