I think I might puke!

What a perfect morning to be in the stand calm and cool, deer should be moving all over. I got to my stand early this morning and had a few deer moving but not too much was going on. I decided to rattle a little, it was calm you could hear and see for miles. I did a short rattling sequence and about a minute later I look just over my right shoulder and see a gorgeous 10 pointer coming right in. He walked right to the fence and trail I am set up on. He stays on the trail stops underneath my tree for a second to look around, puts his head down and keeps moving, I draw while he is behind a tree branch, he steps out in the open and I let it fly! I didn't hear the thud you normally do when you hit a deer with an arrow ( shot right over him) and he trots off down back into the crick bottom he came from. He stops about 50 yards to the north of me and looks around for a minute and slowly walks in to the timber. I think he was around 160"-170" deer. He was at 8 freaking yards! How the hell could I have missed. I got down to look at my arrow and not a drop of blood on it. Atleast it was a clean miss but I still can't believe I missed. Got back to the house checked my sights and shot my bow and it is on so I must of had a little buck fever. Going to get a quick bite to eat then head back out. What a morning.

Shake it off and chalk it up to experience.

Learn from it and move on. It happens to anyone that hunts long enough.

At least you didn't gimp him and it sounds like he didn't really spook to bad. Wipe the dirt off your arrow and get back after him. He may not be so lucky next time.

A little reminder from the BowGods that what we are doing is not easy. It will only increase your drive make a perfect shot next time. Shake it off and go get him this afternoon.

You are still doing better than me since I'm at work!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAGGGGHHH!~ I cant wait until Saturday! Seriously though I have missed the same shot for the same reason.

It happens, Hang in there and go after another one.

Been there done that. Shot right over one about 5 years ago with a SHOTGUN at about 20 yards. Make sure to bend at the waist properly on those real close ones with your bow. The last two years my hits have been high and I know I struggle to remember to bend at the waist when it's critical. Stay positive and get after it.

I've been there. I belive it has alot to do with over confidence and rushing the shot do to the closeness in yardage. Just remeber that everything happens for a reason. Get back out there and get him or a bigger one.

That's why they call it hunting. Most of us who've been at it a while are thinking, "Been there, done that", as we read your post. Keep your chin up, you just might get another chance at him.

Ditto. Sometimes close shots are the hardest........

I would rather shoot and miss, then actually shoot a deer and never find it. You'll always wonder whether or not is was a fatal shot? Did the deer suffer? Did anyone find it? Did the deer go to waste or did the coyotes take care of it?..
That's why it's called hunting. Missing just makes you learn from your mistakes, practice more, and try harder.

Same thing happened to me a few years back. I went to the same stand the next day and shot a bigger buck then i missed the day before! Things happen for a reason!

I wish I wouldn't have read this. Now I had to relive a couple of my own and I have that sick feeling all over agan!!!!!

Yeah, been to the shoot and miss party too. Don't worry this just means there is a bigger one out there meant for you.

. Atleast you completely missed and didn't injure him and not find him. Good luck on the bigger one.

Been there done that too! Get back out there, that's the only way to get past it. Hopefully you will get another chance at him or one better.

Haha sry about the laughin... but it sounds exactly my hunt last weekend! 20 yds away and i shot rite over her! no big deal.. shake it off and go get em

Could always be worse, could've hit him bad and not recovered him. He'll still be around, just kill him next time. If it were easy to kill a whopper then it wouldn't be so much fun!

If you had a nickel for every time someone on this thread has missed a chippy that easy you'd be a multi-millionaire

Get back out after him...that's what makes it fun

Thanks everyone! Went back out and had a great day. Saw tons and tons of bucks searching for the girls! Even saw a group of yotes chasing 6 deer! Two does and four bucks. Two of which were mature bucks. Can't wait until morning! Good luck to everyone this weekend! And remember focus on the shot not the deer!
