Iowa Iowa State

This is just my perception from an outsider and may be way off but Ferentz just seems like a guy that has gotten way to comfortable in his job. I know he as had some success in the past. I'm just wondering if he is not that good of head coach but has had some good assistant coaches surrounding him before and they have moved on. just a thought.

Neither school gets a lot of big name recruits and does pretty good with the talent they have. Iowa has had some good players in the past and done well with them and had some bad luck with players either getting hurt or suspended. Got to give Ferentz some credit for suspending some of the good players he had when other coaches would keep them for their program. I would think both schools would be happy with the head coaches they have now since their programs are filling the seats up.

I think Rhoads and big Man are tackling their learning curve and they will show up to play this weekend. State wins 24-17.

On the other topic... I am willing to give Rhoads another few years. On paper, the combo of him, a former defensive specialist and mangino, a supposed offensive mastermind is a good combo. I'd like to see them with a chance to build a program. Although a record doesn't show it, under Rhoads we have been in more games and more competitive in general against upper echelon schools. Sure, not always. But more often than we used to be. He's still a relatively green head coach. And I'd rather hang on to him than risk booting him and getting another chiz-whatever-his-name-is.

I am an Iowa State Grad and fan, and two weeks ago I didn't think we would stay close with Iowa, after another stressful loss and bad officiating last weekend. I do think we improved greatly and gave us hope for the Hawkeyes. The game could go either way. I think its the hawks to lose. ISU has to being playing hard for their first win, past has proven ISU sometimes wants it way more! Thus giving the Hawks the right to call it our super bowl, but I don't believe that is true anymore. The State is becoming more evenly divided and we are on our way to tons of success in basketball season.
A win vs the Hawks would be awesome but a win to turn our football season around would be even better if ISU could scrape together 6 wins and give a bowl bid a shot.
Coaching I think if Rhoads goes two more seasons with 3 or less wins ISU has to start looking for other options. Iowa has had success with Kirk, but the expectations for the team are greater than what I think he will be able to achieve.

Go CYCLONES!

I'm a University of Louisville fan I believe the offensive line coach is from Iowa State Chris Klenakis.

Just curious is most fans happy with the head coaches at these two schools?

The way I see it:

Besides happy fans, the coaches have to appease their administrators. If they sell tickets, get corporate and media cash, run a "clean" (recruiting violations, thug recruits) program that GRADUATES student athletes, for the most part they please their bosses.

Winning seasons are expected. Bowl games are a cherry on the Sundae and are rewarded. Ranking in the top 10/25 is desired and rewarded, with the National Championship likened to winning the lottery.

Coach Kirk is a very genuine person with integrity. I'll take that over a "bend the rules/win at all cost" program.

I guess I just would expect a little more out of a coach making almost 4 million a year but that is just my opinion.

Look around at what winning coaches make, staying within their division. Not saying it is sustainable, but it is a competitive market.

Because Iowa modeled their uni's from the best franchise in the history of the NFL , the Pittsburgh Steelers, I have to go with Iowa.

I'm going to take advantage of the game and go to the gun range with my AR and get ready for a hog hunt.

As long as Ferentz is the coach, anybody has a chance. I'm a die hard hawk fan but is time for a change. I can't watch this crap anymore.
