about 20 years ago in the IOWA CONSERVATIONIST magazine, where the IA CONSERVATION COMMISSION advised outdoors man to shoot a cat if it was a mile from a farm house? The story went on to tell why they recommended this action by quoting a University of Wisconsin study that showed that domestic cats were harder on game, non game animals, and songbirds, than ALL other predators combined. The study went on to state that cats kill for fun, where natural predators only kill for necessity. I wonder what the states' stance is on this subject now?
On a similar note, I can remember being a kid and if we had a sick animal or nuisance animal on the farm, Dad or Grandpa shot it. There was no taking the sick animal to be put to sleep at the vet, and if an animal, such as a dog was chasing the cattle, it got shot. I suppose in todays' day and age, this would bring criminal charges against you for not taking the animal to the vet to be put to sleep, or for bothering your cattle?
