Is this legal/ethical?

I'm sure this has already been posted but you are suppose to tag the deer harvested with the tag in possession at the time of the harvest not after the fact. Illegal yes and IMO if its illegal its unethical. Game laws are put in place for a reason.

If you shoot a buck on the night before shotgun season and leave it overnight due to a questionable shot can you get in trouble for tagging that deer out of season the next day?

Good question. If it were me, I would call the CO that night and make him aware of the situation. I don't know the answer, but I would guess that if you made him aware of the situation, you may be allowed to do it.

I would say bow season ends 1/2 hour after sunset the evening before shotgun season starts. I don't think it is any different than shooting a deer on Jan. 10th and not finding it. Do you think you should be able to claim the deer the following day? If so; what date do you put on the tag?

I am not arguing for or against the "delayed tag" purchase/application thereof scenario, but it sure seems like there are some gray areas/loopholes that could fairly easily be cleared up with some tighter laws.

Lots of people nowadays wait overnight to even begin looking for their deer, I don't know, what is the ruling if I shot one on the last day and then went looking for it the next day? That is not too far fetched, I have shot deer already on the last day/hour of a few seasons. It's just that I recovered them shortly afterward, so I didn't really think about it.

It would seem logical that you should possess in advance whatever tag you will use on the animal.
