Wow! Was this past weekend I great one or what!!
Gotta keep your camera at the ready at all times to catch a "quickie" like this one!
This is the perfect time not only to shed hunt...but to scout out new spots for this fall.
Trampin thru the hardwoods:
Slippin into those MR hide outs:
I can just see a big ole boy slippin down this runway in November!
or maybe ghosting up thru these cedars as the sun sets!
Just being out with the sun on my shoulders and listening to the runoff...just hard to not come in with a big ole smile on my face!
Hope you all made it out for a hike as well!

Missed the hike this weekend.. Spent Saturday getting all our poop in a group for this Saturdays NWTF Banquet. Sunday was making signs, playin with the kids outside... dang was it nice. Today was playday
... went to the Lynxville Lock & Dam and caught a limit of Saugers with my neighbor.
The ice went out yesterday bout noon and did word get out fast
Gonna say was bout 25-30 boats.... No pics of the fish... but I'll try to remember to take a pic of them in the fryar tomorrow nite!

Nice pics!
I went for a little walk today. If I had found some sheds, I might say I was looking for them. As it turned out, I was just scouting for next year.
While walking through the timber, noticing the leaf covered landscape, I caught myself taking a deep breath, hoping to get that fall smell of drying foliage. Unfortunately, my nose told me I'm going to have to wait.
At least there is turkey season!

I got to take some young boys out on their first shed hunting trip Saturday. My 8 year old had a B-Day sleep over and had some friends over. I played Easter Bunny and staged a few antlers here and there so they would for sure have something to take home with them. Low and behold one of the boys yells "I FOUND A BIG ONE!" I'm thinking to myself,"I didn't put any antlers over there.?"
It was a basic 5 point with a kicker on the G-2. His first words were,"Can I keep it?" After telling myself that I'm bigger than him and could easily take it from him I decided to let him keep it.
I found the match not far from there and we ended up coming home with a few "extra" antlers than I thought we would.

Beauty weekend to hit the backroads...even if just for a "Sunday drive"
Not the best pic but I love seeing these beautiful birds!
Did a little better on his "harem"...
Fields are covered up with deer in the evenings!
I counted nearly 30 deer in this field but they saw me coming...so I only "caught" a couple of stragglers...
At least the sunset doesn't try to flee
and the sun is still shinin when I close my eyes

Some day I'm going to buy a real camera, but one that will fit in your pocket makes it easy to carry everywhere, throw it on the front seat of the truck or carry it on the tractor.
I encourage everyone to share pics here on IW
A camera that would take low light shots is high on my "wants" list.
This field was full of deer in the barely dawn light. I watched them jumping a fence...perhaps 20 or more
Dawn brought out the strutters:
It's hard to hold small camera still enough to zoom in and get a good pic...but you get the idea
As the sun rose the quality of the pics got better:
Never a dull moment at the "zoo"
Watching the sunrise thru the switchgrass made me think of what it may have been like for a Native American as he lay in wait for his prey:
Daylight makes a world of difference when using a cheap camera:
Even the long shots come out better.
Nothing like having bucks and toms in the same field!
This guy even made some fienting runs at a few does...guess his "batteries" are still charged!
Lot's going on in the spring...don't miss a chance to get out an enjoy it whenever you can!

It's been pouring all morning...(enough already!) but the past few days have been beautiful!
The beautiful green grass against the still drab trees makes me glad winter is over!
The early morning sun kissing the tops of the ridge is a great way to start the day.
Everywhere you look...it looks doggone good!
Won't be long and the leaves will popping and the morels will be up
