Never say die !!!!!

But know when your whipped. It's been a tough bow season for me. Logged many hours in the stand. Seems like a few of my best consistant stands have been just a bit out of place this year and I don't know the reason. Nothing has really changed. Had one really nice deer on camera this year but I normally get 3 or 4 that most would fling an arrow at. I never saw that deer though. I saw a great looking 8 pointer during the rut that I'm sure has the same genes as a deer I was hunting a few years ago, so that is something to look forward to. Was on two 140 class deer one day but they both were more interested in girls than they were in me. Other than those two and the big eight, I havn't seen a deer over 130. Kinda frustrating. Now I'm at the point where I'm a little burned out. I think the gun season will maybe give me the break I need.

Anyone else feel the same as me?

You guys have done it right though. Kept after it in spite of what I am sure were opportunities at bucks under your self-imposed standards. I was not so self-disciplined. Your decision was a lot tougher to make than the one I made, so I commend you all for a great season of hunting hard.

Thanks BWJ...means alot after putting in 200+ hrs over last two years and shooting 5 does..zero bucks. Haven't used my buck tag in 2 years but know that ONE DAY it will happen again. Not out to break any records but I was commited on my farm to shoot mature deer, just a personal promise, so far so good but the finger does get itchy /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif I tell you what though..I saw some of the coolest storms, sunrises, and was able to hunt all the seasons and once you don't tag a deer and get over that disapointment, it is easier to handle, you appreciate THE HUNT, the OPPORTUNITY just to be able to go,the anticipation of the day IT HAPPENS, for the HEALTH to climb a tree. Changed me as a hunter over last two years but again... there's always late season!

I haven't even seen one worth shooting in the stand. Even with an itchy trigger finger. But next weekend will be stress management for me and hell for the deer.(hopefully) Either way it'll be a good time.

More then anything I am thankful for those that appreciate everything involved with hunting whitetails and not measure success soley in "points" /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Amen again! The older I get, the more important this whole process is.

Buck Tag Soup ain't so bad when you eat it with the right spices. I wouldn't trade a single day of the season--even the "skunks" and frost-biters and ones when the does blew at me like I stunk like roadkill--for something other than hunting.

I've had my heinie handed to me plenty this year. Get discouraged, tired, burnt out. Then I take a day or two off and start looking out the window at the woods again.

And then I look at the calendar and thank God there's a whole lotta season left /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

Keep at 'em boys!

I don't ever seem to get burned out, I just love being out there. I haven't shot a buck with my bow in the last 6 years and I don't feel bad about it. Alot has changed prior to the last 6 years. I used to bowhunt a place that it was common to pass 150 inch deer and not think twice about. In the last 6 years I went to college, graduated and now live in Rudd, IA. I have hunted nothing but public ground since. I will admit I have seen my fair share of 160inch + deer, passed up dozens of 140-150 inch deer, but either managed to screw up or just flat out not be in the right spot. This year was kind of a wash, I could of shot two bucks one low 150s 11pointer and one that would of been a 150s 8 pointer that I would of shot but I got hung up on a 8 inch brow tine that was broken when he was making a scrape 20 yards away. It was a rough year, I was hunting unfamiliar ground up in NE iowa.

What I take away from the season is knowing I could of shot two nice bucks, and flat out didn't see any big ones. I guess I always kind of lived by the motto, you can't kill a big one by shooting a smaller one. I am starting to think my expectations are too high for hunting public ground. It is flat out tough with the pressure of other hunters that don't seem to take it as serious as I do. One of these days I will get lucky and shoot a big one, when that day comes it will be bitter sweet.

I know alot guys live by the rule don't pass up on a buck the first day that you would happy with on the last day. That's something I have never really lived by. When late season comes, and I have gave it my all during the rut for the chance of something really big, I would shoot a 140inch plus on public ground. From experience, that in itself is tough and I'd be completely happy with ending my season that way. My best advice is to keep on keepin on and never give up. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

What? my big brother getting burnt out on hunting? Say it ain't so!
It can't hunrt too bad with the 185' hog you deflated in early muzz.
Keep an eye on your ground this year, don't want your bucks to suddenly move off your timber again.
Stick with it, maybe gun season will push a couple biggens into your timber this time.
Good luck to all

Happens to about 99% of the guys I know!!! I try and take a day off when I really get burnt out. I love it though and I personally wouldn't have it any other way. Most my buddies end up staying up WAY TOO LATE and kick themselves the next day, a few nights of that and they are fried. There's many different goals and reasons each of us go out, I just hate seeing folks too tired to do what they set out to. I could go on and on BUT I won't, I got a fun hunt in the ice planned for tonight (probably won't shoot a thing BUT it will be fun anyways!).
