New camo set up needed...opinions?

Guys,

I'm planning on new camo for next year.....I need both warmer weather and cold weather gear.

For cold weather I'm set with a coat, but would need some Bibs....what does everyone recommend?

For warmer weather I was thinking Sitka, but am open to opinions.

For now, there's no budget. I haven't purchased new camo for myself ever (always been given to me for christmas/birthdays) so its time to get what I actually need.

I wouldn't be able to sit near as long in cold weather as I used to if I didn't have my Gray Wolf Woolens. They're sponsors of the site so there's going to be a big band wagon for Jeff and his company. I have the bibs, they're awesome.

I guess for me the only camo I really invested in was cold weather gear. For warm temps down to around 40 i just wear a pair of any camo pants and underarmour bottoms. I might slip on a pair of artic shield onyx pants I picked up this year if it is windy and 40 out. I wore those pants one morning on a 28 degree day with just pants and no underarmour and was warm as can be. I haven't tested them colder.

For cold weather I Have...

Cabelas Berber Fleece Windshear pullover. I pretty much wear this whether it is 40 out or 0 degrees out.

I also have the same vest if it was well below zero and windy.

For bibs I have the whitetail extreme MT050 goretex bibs. I have worn them well below zero with no issues. I have also worn them in down pours with no issues.

the artic Shield onyx pants are supposed to be waterproof and i have a feeling I will wear them down to around the 15 degree mark.

I also have the whitetail extreme mt050 goretex parka that used to be my cold weather parka but it flat out doesn't seem to get cold anymore. Down to around zero I will wear the pull over. I did wear it once on a -6 degree morning with a sweatshirt and underarmour and never got cold. I have worn the parka in the -20s with no issues.

With the gear mentioned above I can hunt any weather Iowa will throw me. I also have cabelas mt050 rain gear for those warmer days when it is pouring out.

The grey wolf woolens stuff is very nice but not waterproof. I have sat in many upper 30 degree days in pouring rain and stayed dry as a bone with the whitetail extreme parka and bibs. Not going to happen with that stuff according to my buddy that has it.

Lots of good choices. Sitka gear is awesome but good lord it is expensive.

All the stuff I have though you have to carry it in otherwise you will sweat your balls off.

That's true, it's not water proof, but that's when you suck it up and deal.

Oh I know. It just sucks when you got to take half a viagra just to be able to take a leak out of your bibs when you get cold and wet. :way:

its a waterfowl company but take a look at BANDED. they're based out if council bluffs now. all of the cold weather stuff had primaloft which is the same material the military uses. its amazing

i also have arctic shield brand. like it alot. they have diff rated lines from light to warmest. the parka is really warm but a little bulky for bow hunting. they advertise 50 above zero to 50 below. dont know about the below but is comfy to sit in in warmer temps. but like mentioned above never walk in with it on.

Ive really been liking my under armour gear. Have hunted from upper 60's down to low 20's so far and have been plenty comfy. I wear a base layer, mid fleece layer and the under armour gear. Ill be able to use thicker fleece mid layers and i should be able to stay comfy down to zero degrees easy.

If not, ill look into a little heavier coat, which UA makes heavier ones than i have.

Like the zippers, the pockets, the material is durable/quiet. Pretty good stuff i think for $320 for pants and coat.

I agree with 2dblind BANDED gear is goos stuff, i like their boots as well. I need to invest in some new bibs and parka for deer hunting in late season thats not real bulky so i can still shoot a bow without interference, has anyone wore the under armour 4.0 cold gear base layers? Is it worth buying?

i dont believe i have the 4.0.... but Under Armor cold gear is all i wear for my base layers... i have 3 pairs of the coldgear leggings, and have aquired (through christmas/birthdays) 8 UA coldgear mock tops! then i also have the turf gear that i wear when its warmer, and you cant go wrong with the compression shorts either. UA wool socks are amazing as well! i cannot speak for their outer wear tho, as i usually wear my scent lok timber fleece when it gets chilly and scent lok jacket when it gets cold... but im sure it is just as good as their other apparel!

it doesnt matter if im duck, goose, deer, pheasant, or turkey hunting- Under Armor is all i wear for a base layer..if it gets cold and i still want to dress "lighter", ill double up on the base layers so i dont bulk up too bad.. My old man has a set of the thick Nike base layers, similar to "coldgear", that he says he likes better than under armor... something to look into i guess.

someone may say im obsessed.. i say comfortable lol

I have Russell APXG2 gear. It is a great 5 layer system that you can mix and match to suit anything the weather brings. I absolutely love the setup. Best part it is has very minimal bulk so it is perfect for bowhunting.

This was my first year with the Gray Wolf Woolens. The first thing I noticed is the you cannot dress at the vehicle, not even bibs only. On some of the colder days it was just a light layer underneath and the GWW over top. Never got even chilled. They are a little bulky but I will take that and warm any day. I have fallen in love with the Predator patterns also :way:

Maybe I got the wrong base layer stuff from UA but I absolutely hated the layer that I got. I it is very tight fitting and when I walked in, I sweated so bad and I immediately got cold once in the tree. I got the first lite merino wool base layer and that made a world of difference. Anything merino wool is awesome. As far as the outer layer, I'm in the same boat. I have some Scent blocker outfitter series and I don't like it at all.

I tried the UA 4.0 this year and I swear by it. I've never found anything better. I can wear the 4.0 tops and bottoms with my uninsualted pants and a fleece on 32 degree mornings and be fine. When its super cold, I just add the cabelas mt050's as mentioned above by liv4rut. They will hands down beat anything on the market in my opinion. Or well enough that I won't ever look elsewear. I've sat some really cold days, below 0, and never got cold. But yes, in my opinion the UA 4.0 is worth every dollar...and they don't give em away! :)

Couldnt agree more. One of the best investments Ive ever made.:way:

For me UA cold gear sucks!! waaaaayyyyyy over rated JMO

Another vote for Gray Wolf, they are not water proof but water will run off of them for a while. I am not going to be bowhunting in the rain anyway. I had a blood trail disappear once and took me half a day to find a doe. Never again will I hunt in more than a light rain or mist.

They are the best investment that I have made in hunting gear hands down and Jeff is a delight to work with. I have become less and less brand loyal as I get older but I won't switch from Gray Wolf anytime soon.
