Well at least that is the plan anyway. My buddy Dusty just picked up this pup and is going to train him for finding sheds. He sure is beautiful. Makes me pretty jealous. By the way Dusty is a sheriffs deputy and named the dog Badge, pretty neat I thought.
He is a black/roan German Shorthair. They used to be pretty rare, but there are breeders that are breeding for them exclusively now. It is a recessive trait of the liver/roan I believe. Someone else had a picture of one on this site late last summer. They really are striking animals.
He looks almost exactly like a male of mine named Fred who is now living in the bird dog heaven that is South Dakota. The black Shorthairs sure are beautiful dogs. They are becoming much more common in the US. For some reason the AKC considers black a fault in the show ring, but they can be registered. Damn show people been ruining it for the rest of us.
I'm usually a lab guy, but that is one of the best looking hunting dogs I have ever seen. A looker like that could almost sway a guy to a different breed...
I think BagginBucks (Jeremy Capper) has a year or two old GSP that color. I like the long haired bird dogs but agree with the others...awesome looking dog.
One thing nice about GSP's,no picking burrs, and turn the hose on them if you hit a muddy field. One buddy had Brittneys, great birddogs, but were cockaburr combines.
