New Twist - Late Rifle Season

Ghost

Life Member
I have not heard this mentioned yet when discussing the new rifle season.

How many are going to be in the woods shed hunting at the same time that the late rifle season is going on?

I for one, will not be rifle hunting, but I will be shed hunting by the last week of January.

My new shed hunting jacket will be ORANGE!

Well, Ghost since we will be doing some shed hunting together, I'm with you on that one!

I guess if one of you Southern IA boys wants we to tromp through your woods looking for sheds I will

, otherwise I will stuck up here in Iowa City.

I think I'll just skip that week Ghost! Planning on taking our Golden Retriever...and he doesn't like wearing orange

Is that cheating if the dog finds one?

Heck no that's not cheating. He's just another good shed hunting partner as far as I'm concerned.

Just make sure he keeps his pile separate from yours!

Good point Ghost, orange would be a good idea! A dog would be a great shed hunting partner. One of the few who won't tell where your best spots are!

I got a chocolate lab pup last spring. She's supposed to be my pheasant hunter but I can't keep my shed antlers out of her mouth. I tried all kinds of toys for her to fetch but she loves those sheds. I'll be taking her out shed hunting in a few weeks. I guess I will be just as happy having a new shed hunting partner.

The orange sounds like a good idea Ghost. I really don't know about these late season doe hunts...

Dogs make the best shed hunting partners...I just love to watch mine bounce around in the timber like he doesn't have a care in the world other than to pee on every possible tree trunk in the woods.

How is it that dogs never run out of urine? I sware mine has a 55 gallon drum for a bladder.

You bring up a good point about that late season rifle hunt Ghost...everybody be careful out there looking for bone! I'm heading out in full force this weekend...hope to have some pics on Monday!

I received a Drathaar from some freinds this fall and have been working with him to try and retreive antlers. I have walked with him behind my house but have yet to find any sheds. I hope he can learn to lock onto those things and bring them back, I have seen alot of shed bucks already, just not where I am quite ready to shed hunt at though....

I Hear you loud and clear on the orange. sounds like a good idea to me! Brown Carharts with a white hanky won't be an option.
