nice morning

Now that the pressure of harvesting a buck is off, I went in pursuit of does this morning. Heard a great songdog serenade right as the sun was coming up, then my buck for 2009 came by and posed nice and pretty.

That's what I like to see,...a man that appreciates the little things in life. Everytime I see a pileated Woodpecker on my families land I know it's going to be a great day, even if I don't see anything else. In 16 years of owning this land I can count on 1 hand the times that I've seen them fairly close. Yesterday was one of those days....Well, I thought it was cool anyway.

There is a pair of pileated peckers on this farm as well, had both of them 50 yards off the night I shot SNAFU. Pretty cool watching them whirl around after each other!

Whaddya think he'll score when I kill him in '09? I'm hoping 205.

He is a stalky fella.I had a pair of those pileated peckers hanging out with me Sat AM too. I had this young buck walk right by at 15 yds but the pic looks like he was a mile away. I will zoom next time. It is nice to leisurely doe hunt now and so I too am dragging the camera out.

Whoa, is it me or does it look like he's got spots down either side of his spine? Weird patterns or sumthin. As of now he's dubbed "Jackalope"

So we all saw Pileated woodpeckers and then saw or shot bucks.....coincedence or a sign from above?......cool !

Muddy - kinda looks like a barbwire pattern across his back. Must have gone under a strand.

Muddy I think you are being a little optimistic. In 2009 that deer will obviously be around 183 3/8 gross. With a 4 1/4" drop tine.

Those do look like fading fawn spots, perhaps he is the worlds largest button buck? Just think of the potential...

If his antlers catch up to his body size over the next few years you could be looking at the next world record there. Nice picture.

If he scores 205 and I am hunting down the road I bet I hear you without the phone this time

Good Post. I had a great weekend of hunting. I could've whacked a pile of does but didn't. If I had I'd be done poking around home. I also spent an afternoon in the forest with a friend. What a different style of hunting, endless forest, miles from any road or person. It was sweet, saw 6 bucks and 5 does. We let them all walk too, if we'd have taken one, we'd be done there too.

We've got the pileated peckers too, blue jays are all over now and the cold has the pine grosbeaks coming down in full force. I have until the 9th of Dec. to use those 2 tags and just getting out there is so good, I'll likely still have them both come that morning.

P.S.......That bck is going to have a big split g2 on his RIGHT side in 2009.
