Nonresident landowner doe tag

It is going to be a good fall!
I have conflicting information from two sources on the NR landowner doe tag (shotgun). One sources said (the landowner doe tag) could be used both shotgun 1 and shotgun 2. The other said no you have to pick a season. So I did pick shotgun 1.

Also, if this tag goes unfilled can it be used during the NR holiday season, or any other late season doe...Not likely that I would use it, but just curious?

Anyone familiar with this? Thanks

The regs say season 1 or 2 so I would think it is only valid for the season you picked, not both. Every tag I have has the valid dates printed on it so you can probably see the answer there. I think "no" is the answer to being valid for other seasons.

I did call the Iowa DNR, yep, pick one season. Another gal at the Iowa DNR gave me the wrong information last summer, maybe she was looking under R landowner??

Also note, if you draw archery, (NR) are not eligible for landowner shotgun or any other gun tags

Thanks jclaws.

I knew they could buy left over doe tags, didn't know there was a preference.

Thanks jclaws.

We do get preference, but really not a big special priviledge (353 dollars) and you can buy them over the counter in most counties anyway.

Absolutely not a preference. Doe tags do not usually sell out and that is a lot of coin to shoot one slick head.

I agree it's a lot of coin.

I somewhat hesitate to go on, but.....:D

What's land cost in your home state? Can you buy a enough land to create a sanctuary there and manage it? What's so special about Iowa? ;)

Price are out of line for NRs. I have alway believe this and it does keep family's and friends from hunting togrether. IMO

Revive an old thread.

It's too late now, but anyone know if any shotgun doe tags can be used in later seasons?? Holiday antlerless?

I'm thinking no, but just curious

Prices are high everywhere for NR..... Just look at Nebraska and South Dakota. Some prices are over 500$

Revamped prices and seasons for NR landowner doe tags would probably be something they should look at.

I doubt they will ever lower buck tags.

Iowa prices for a NR anysex tag exceeds 600. Ridiculous and the most expensive whitetail tag in the nation.

Gotta love the supply and demand curve.. But if ya don't want to pay it you can go hunt elk in Colorado for $11 more.

One other question relative to this is, if you use the landowner status doe tag can you still party hunt with residents. The price is the same either way so may not be advantageous to buy the landowner doe tag. One thing that is a good value is the NR holiday doe tag had some friends down pheasant hunting and were able to get a tag for 75 bucks.

Hans, yes. Many NR's buy a doe tag every year, which is much less than an anysex tag, and party hunt with residents to shoot their buck. Personally, it's a rule I don't like but it's legal. It's easier as a NR landowner to just buy a doe tag. The preference is non-existent because there are always doe tags available.
