Hey Iornwood I used to have a terrible time judging distance. My father-in-law taught me something that I still use to double check myself. I just count out paces on the ground to the target and usually it is within a yard or so. If it is a hunting situation and you are in a tree stand do the same thing out to some sort of land mark so you have an idea what the distance is when the deer walks in. I did that for years and know I can judge distance close enough to get the job done.

I was gone for the weekend and came back and was reading this and I failed to say that I don't actually step it off. I just guess the distance of each pace.
