To the jerk on the yellow ATV that decided to trespass Sunday afternoon.
Minding my own business, I'm sitting in the blind about 2:30 thinking I will probably have to fill a tag with a doe because this is my last chance for late season muzzleloader and the weather just isn't cooperating. I spot someone running the other side of the tree/fenceline and didn't think too much of it until you drove right past the "No trespassing" sign and started across my rye field. My mistake I didn't let you get close enough before I jumped out of the blind because you were paying attention and immediately turned around and left the way you came. You POS. I will recognize you.

people with land that they don't live near can expect more of this in the future. as hunting places become more difficult to come by, "hunters" with the ethics of a mangy coyote in a chicken house will trespass regularly. there is simple not enough good public land or authorities to keep them honest.

I know exactly how I would feel and it would be hard to stay calm.

Hopefully when the extra 6000 NR tags get sold this year the money really will go towards buyingt addition land for public hunting. At 2.4 million a year in additional NR licence fees they should own at least an additional 1000 acres a year. Do you think for two seconds they will, NOT.

Just sitting here still doing a slow burn over it. Between neighbor's 56, other neighbor's 80, & my 104- in the last few years we have had 3 fence cuts, a gate destroyed, 2 ladder stands stolen, erosion (creek crossing was regraded and an ATV went through before seeding took off), dogs running through, and general trespass evidence several times. I doubt any of this is from NRs. Just when you think you have it bad as a landowner you need to be aware that some trespasser is going to get hurt someday and try to sue you.

Dang I would be PO'd too pharmer!! Couple weeks ago somebody cut the chain on one of my gates and went in. Just an idea...but I've been setting up a trail camera just to catch trespassers. Have to hide it darn good or they'll steal that too!

Dbltree, I know what you mean. I had a similar incident happen last year to me. I received permission to hunt a farm on the outskirts of a little towns city limits. I know the farmer well and asked permission, he was very glad to let me hunt do to the fact that he was having so many trespassing problems and basically gave me permission to do what ever needed to patrol it. I spent a day with him over there helping him pickup trash from all the idiots dumping over there and we wound up putting on two brand new gates on the entrance one weekend and chain and padlocked them. Here is the kicker. The following weekend I went there to hunt in the A.M. only when I pulled up to the gates to unlock it they were gone. The took the gates and all. Cut them right off the hinges. Then when I drove back to park to hunt wouldn’t you know it, right were we had just cleaned up the junk the weekend before someone had dumped a whole load of junk again TV’s, a mattress, stuffed animals, household garbage, toys you name it. Now I’m at least to say mad. I called the police and they said they would patrol it for us and said they would definitely right up the person(s) if they did caught. It’s just amazing the nerve of some people.

I think that is the worse part of owning land. Within 15 days of owning my property I had the 5 brand new gates I put up stolen. Nothing like wizzing $500 down your leg.

pharmer, I hope it was not a non-res. I know this non res does not trespass for any reason. I hunted public land a couple of weeks ago when I was down in Iowa. I loved it.... you can't get mixed up, the state land has signs all around the edges. The signs even say the state land ends here. In Wi you have no idea when the state land starts and end. I think(hope) there are more respectful non-res hunters than disrespectful non-res hunters. I know I treasure every time I draw a tag to hunt your fine state. I may from time to time complain about the price, but that is only human nature. Good luck in your hunt for trespassers.

This is one reason I hate ATVs, they're just a tool for lazy asses to have the run of the countryside. Hunting was much better without them before they were built. Now you can walk your ass off only to have someone come riding up 10 minutes later or tear around an hour before you got there and you won't even know it. I know where your coming from Pharmer.

Sorry for the rant but this just strikes a nerve with me.

[start rant] Add snowmobiles to the list for me. I had tracks right up to the backdoor of our house once. If you have a gap in the fence wide enough for an ATV/snowmobile to get through (or drifts over the fence), some of them think they can go where ever they want. They constantly cut the corner through the neighbors hayfield. Would they do that with a 4X4 p/u? I doubt it, but for some reason it is okay with a sled/ATV. [end rant]

Pharmer,
You for sure are not alone, I could write a book on the trespassers that have been on my families land.

Like the sheriff told me....."just don't end up in jail yourself, for doing something you will regret later....these scumbags aren't worth it!"

Can you do a ballistics test on a muzzle loader?? I guess you can if it's a rifled barrel. Too bad.

All you have to do is put the fear of God into one of these jerks and he'll let the rest of them know.

dont blame the tool a criminal uses to commit their crime, I dont think any of us want to go down that road.
Im still a little sore about the guy who came crashing through the trees on an atv last October, I dont understand how someone can be so inconsiderate, my pickup by the gate over a mile away should have been a pretty good indicator someone was down there.

That sucks Pharmer. I caught a guy I know well pushing my ground during shotgun season this year. I considered him a friend and worked with him for several years. Claimed he didnt know I owned that piece and didnt understand the property lines. Give me a break! I knew that was a load of crap and told him so. He's been to my place several times (recently), and its a simple rectagle with brand new fencing for Christ's sake! Another friend, who was present for the ass-chewing but not the tresspassing, came over later and said the guy knew damn well where the lines were as they had discussed it in previous years. Were it not for our prior relationship I would have dragged him to jail right then and there, and I made it very clear thats exactly what would would happen next time. They had permission to hunt the neighbors ground. When the neighbor found out what happend he said they were done.
I had not set foot in there for weeks because I had a late muzzy tag and this guy decided to push it the last weekend of 2nd shotgun. I rarely get upset and lose my cool but I went full blown nuclear on this one. Still upsets me and I know exactly how you feel Pharmer. The guy ran into my dad a few weeks later and said he was going to stop over and appoligize. He hasnt, and he might want to wait a few more years too.

And I own an ATV, but dont get me started on the "ride 'em down the fenceline right to the stand" crowd. I get burned by that crap crap atleast once a week. Extremely frustrating...

pharmer its a never ending battle for me too.saturday I took my tc encore and hunted my house 5 acres something I really do not do.Got all set up and here comes a nice doe and I decide to let her go..something may follow her trail.I hear some kids yelling and laughing and low and behold 3 kids and 2 adults come walking down the edge of my property line. All making noice and proceed to stand there and start letting off bottle rockets! now I have seen it all.all kinds of deer took off running that were coming in my direction and there are some very large bucks here.the kids walk out into the neighbors field..and this farm is so heavily patroled it is like fort knox.game wardend work there to keep people off.I myself am even afraid to look at it! anyway some of the rockets are landing in my woods and going out.well I just moved further away and stayed another 15 minutes and left..another wasted outing because of my neighbors.4 of the 7 times I have hunted there I have had neighbors pull something on me...I give up on that spot.it really takes the enjoyment out of hunting..and my friends wonder why I want the biggest piece of ground I can get.
