I've never seen a Pallid Sturgeon, but they are very similar to Shovelnose Sturgeon. They're bony and can destroy your hands if you're not carefull.

What I really meant to refer to was the shovelnose sturgeon. we catch them on the cedar. not sure why I was thinking pallid.

Pallid look 99.9% like a Shovelnose, easy to mix them up. The Shovelnose have 4 barbels on the underside of the rostrum and they are all in a perfect line. The Pallid has 4 barbels but they are slightly offset with the middle two being farther forward than the outer two... or so I've been told as I've never actually seen a Pallid Sturgeon... they're rapidly declining. Low water quality and the lock and dam ssytem have really put a hurting on them.
