Question for Muddy

I bought some guillotines last night, 125gr. and also bought the arrows to match. Then I came home and searched this forum and a few others. You seem to be the resident expert on these heads.

After reading several posts on other sites I am considering returning these and getting some Jackhammers. The GG's seem like a huge headache to me(as well as the toms

). Are they worth the trouble?

I have only loosed 2 arrows at turkeys in my life. Both times I used Montecs. The first was a stalk on a group of toms in the fall and I smoked one with a 30 yard shot and he went 15 feet. The second was this week and it was a 10 yard shot and he ran off like he wasn't hurt and I never recovered the bird.

I've read many horror stories recently about bow killing turks and I don't want to continue losing birds.

Should I give the GG's a try or go with a big cutting mechanical? If I lose another bird this spring I will go back to gunning for turks, but I don't want to do that.

I need help making up my mind.

GG's, Jacks, or stay with the G5's?

Can't go wrong with a Jak Hammer, they're very VERY good broad heads, but if for some reason you don't hit the bread basket they could get away. With the GG you're going for a head shot, it's either a clean kill or a clean miss. In my opinion I'd stick with the GG's.

Jak Hammers, and Rocket Hammerheads are my two favorites for turkeys. I was at the fleet farm the other day and noticed some off brand expandable broadhead that had a massive 2 3/4 inch cutting diameter. I might have to give these a shot

I will say this, the bigger the hole you rip through that bugger the better off you'll be. If you take the GG's back find something with a big cut, preferably an expandable. Rocket Hammerheads, Rocket Sledgehamers, and JakHammers are on the top of my list as well.

the g5 montec worked for me last year. I wont use them again because my bird went along ways. We wouldn't have found it but I resorted to a dog and after a lucky search he found it. I'm going to try a bigger style.

Rocket has to come out with a better way to change the blades. The little screws are absolutely a major P.I.T.A.

I do agree 100% with that, but I found that if I have 4 or 5 High Lifes the task is much more enjoyable.

Mudster, I have a jar full that need rebuilt. I will buy all the beer you can drink if you will rebuild them!

After thinking about it tonight, I think I will just go buy that AMS bowfishing rig and if the bird tries to run off, I'll just reel him back in.

I agree with the vote for Jackhammers. I've had great luck on Turkeys with them. I've used hammerheads before but prefer the Jackhammers due to the thicker and stronger blades. Jackhammers are also very easy to practice with as you can tie the blades down and shoot them.

I tried the G.G. last year and did not care for them. I thought they were a P.I.T.A. to carry in and out. Plus i hit two birds and watched them run 100 yards and start srutting again.

So Muddy is right you either kill em or they live to see another day. I'm using the Jackhammers this year.

Try shooting them in the head or neck and your tune will change.
