Which counties in Iowa produced the most non-typical B&C bucks in the last ten years 1995-2005?

Which counties in Iowa produced the most typical B&C bucks in the last ten years?

Hint, There are only two counties that make both lists.
 
I feel sorry for the guys hunting those two counties when the results are posted.

Having hunted and trapped virtually every square inch of Winnebago county, I am surprised that there are not more big bucks taken there. There is only one B&C typical registered but I know that Matt Modeland shot a B&C typical back in the early 90's that was apparently not entered because it does't show up in the B&C records. It is entered into P&Y as a 172 (I think). I used to bowhunt the north side of Pilot Knob in the early 1970's before it was off limits. The area that is now a public hunting area was mine all mine and no one else could hunt there. Problem is there weren't nearly as many deer there as there are now and it was grazed heavily. Plus I didn't know what I was doing.

I also had sole permission on the land just directly north of Pilot Knob that is now private land owned by you know who and locked up pretty tight. I shot a lot of deer off that land during the 1970's and 1980's.

There have been some really good bucks taken off the south side of Pilot Knob over the years including Jerry Monson's one time state record non-typical. Jim Orthel shot a typical that went P&Y 169 7/8 (ouch) there too. But that's Hanckock county.

There are some pockets of good stuff in Winnebago County, mostly in Mount Valley township, but it gets hammered hard during shotgun season.

This was a surprise to me because I had heard that the northeast part of the state had really gone downhill compared to parts of southeast and south central Iowa in the last couple decades, from these numbers it is clear that is obviously not true.
 
For you WInnebago county guys I did the search again just to double check. There has been just one typical and one non-typical B&C buck registered from Winnebago county since 1830. Ain't looking good for your odds! Might want to cross over to Hancock where there have been three typicals and one non-typical.;)

We happen to farm quite a bit in Mount Valley and we own a good chunk of ground North of The Knob and I've got permission for quite a bit around there. Where exactly North of the Knob did you hunt?
 
Adjacent to the park. The piece that is now a public hunting area was farmed by Ivan Johnson at that time and I walked beans for him one summer in high school and he gave me sole permission to the hunting rights on it. It actually joins the park property. The other piece was farmed by Ray Charlson after Ivan let it go, and I hunted it for many years. It is right outside the park entrance. It was bought by the folks you buy your groceries from, and they keep it locked pretty tight and have been raising some darn good bucks there I hear. The other side of the road was owned by Roger Tweeten and I had that locked up for many years too. I could tell you some great stories about hunting that area all those years. Back then hardly anyone was bowhunting compared to now. Plus I worked for the park in 1980 so I had a good handle on the deer movement

I graduated from Forest City High in 1977 and lived in the area until 2001 when I moved here to da nort country.

By the way there used to be a no-maintenence county road that ran all along the north side of the park. I think it is still there and still public property but I wonder if anyone knows that since it is all grown up into bushes and trees now.

Hey liv4rut I kringed when I read the question. Yeah there's big bucks up here but trust me it's not such an easy task to tag one. And it's even tougher trying to get permission to hunt. If your willing to hike there's some real good state land.

I could try and hide the fact but I think the cats been out of the bag for a real long time. Allamakee county rocks

That's why I live here. Or was it because I married a girl from here. Either way it's a great place.
 
Wow, Allamakee county looks like an awesome place to bow hunt. I think i'm going to try to buy some land up there. HAHA!

I kmow there have been several deer that should be in the books from hancock county but never will be entered because its a secret.
