people say 90 percent of your oder comes from your mouth and now they make stuff to cover that so id say full scent lok like i use then the new scent gum that cabelas sales if that doesnt work then i dont know what will....

I had above average success last year using "Dead Down Wind" body wash and spraying down with "Scent Killer" Rubber boots have been a main stay with me for years. Still need to hunt the wind, and watch your entrance and exits extremely close.

Cover Scents don't work, the sprays don't work, and carbon clothes don't work. Best to just hunt the wind cause the big-boy's will smell you regardless! IMHO, then again, I'm not getting paid by any companies to say they work!

Nothing is more important than using the wind to your advantage. Their are many steps you can take to reduce your scent.I always shower and keep my cloths clean and as scent free as possible, but I just dont believe you can completely fool an ol bucks nose. Picking your travel routes carefuly and being extremely conscious of the wind, rising and falling thermals, is imho far more important than any spray or soap you can buy.

That's my take on it to. I try to keep strong odors down, wash my clothes in non scent detergent, use non scented shower soap, the wind is religion.

I disagree. I shower with the soap before I go out, I spray down with the spray before I step foot in the timber, and I wear a Scent Shield suit, and I've had great luck doing this. I've had some nice mature deer walk straight down wind from me and not even think twice about it. I agree that you still need to be aware of the wind, as well as other factors, but if you wear a carbon suit, you can get away with a lot more. I just know that I'll never be in my stand without one.

I can't say what works and what doens't. I'm sure my scent reduction techniques are minimal compared to most. I spray my rubber boots with scent killer and give my clothes a quick squirt. I hurry out after work, never have time to shower so basically I never hunt upwind of where the deer are going to move. All the gadgets in the world may work wonders but I'll stcik to hunting the wind, it's more affordable than the carbon suit.
I think there is some merit to all of the scent control products, if there wasnt then there wouldnt be a market for them. Minimizing the amount of scent you leave in the woods is never a bad thing, whether you think it will spook a deer or not. There is always some spot where they can get down wind of you. You dont have to totally fool them into you not being there. Giving yourself enough time before they blow out of there might give you just enough time to get a shot off. I have shot plenty of deer as they stood there and tried to wind me. If a buck is with a hot doe, he dont care if your there or not. Fool her just long enough and usually you can get a shot at him. If you can afford it, I say wear it. None of it is going to hurt you.

Scott IC makes a good point. I have become a believer in Scent Control and I believe it has helped me harvest several nice deer the last 3 years. I usually shower down everytime I go out with HS body wash and then use the ScentShield body gel when I am done. Scent free deodarant with baking soda and the clothes are always in a scent proof bag. I don't put my clothes on until I am to my hunting spot. I know a lot of people don't believe in the Scent Lock and Blocker products but I guess I am a sucker because I wear it head to toe. I do have to admit since I have had it I haven't been winded by a deer up or down wind, if nothing else it gives me all the confidence in the world.

I am a scent control freek! I use a scentlok suit and scent killer on the boots. I brush my teeth, then gargle with baking soda, then I spray a hawgs ltd scent killer in my mouth to further kill scent. After that everything I take in the woods is absolutely 100% scent free, or at least to the best i can make it.
Do scentlok suits work 100% of the time I don't know, but when I walk in the woods, get in my stand and deer go down wind I am confident they aren't going to catch much of a wiff on me.
Eversince I have started to keep everything scent free,scentlok, and scent killer I have seen, been closer, and killed more deer because I believe all this has made a difference.
So my end suggestion is go with confidence in whatever direction you choose.
I know where I am confident.

My experience says the scent control helps, sometimes quite a bit, but it is not a panacea. Even with the scent reduction efforts, I still play the wind.
As someone else said too, it isn't just about scent control while you are in the stand, it is also important to control the scent left behind after you have left. Think about it... most of the guys on this website aren't just trying to shoot any deer, they are targeting deer that are minimally 3 1/2 years old. Thee are the ones that hang back in the cover while all the others run out into the open field when they are hungry. I would rather they not even know that I have been in the timber until there is a hole in their lungs! Don't give them a reason to stay put until after dark or spend more time elsewhere...

I am a firm believer in ScentBlocker, ScentKiller, and Dead Down Wind stuff. Now, while I do use this to a great extent, I still do play the wind because then you have an even better chance of the bucks not smelling you, even if something does go wrong. Also, the mature deer will start to pattern you alot faster than you can pattern them with your movements. The best thing you can do when this happens is mix it up. If you normally sit in a treestand in one area, try moving and sitting on the ground just out of sight of the stand. Who knows, that big boy might suspect you of being in the stand when really he is walking into a double-lung bound arrow!

I am another firm user in all the scent control products. For three reasons 1. As much as I try to hunt downwind- not every deer shows up on the upwind side of the tree all the time. And its usually the older deer that are just a little bit further downwind then the rest. 2. I do alot of rattling and almost every buck that comes to the horns will circle downwind at one point or another. 3. The confidence factor.

I am absolutely land locked in my appoach to my stands. I can only get in and get out one way to each. So I have to approach upwind, downwind, sidewind, how ever the wind is blowing that day.
To that end I do all the soaps and sprays, carbon inner and sprayed cammos. It made a huge difference in the amount of deer I've seen. Now I'm more apt to get "motioned" or "sounded" than winded.
