A recent upgrade of Microsoft Outlook has started sending some email I receive directly to a junk email folder. Sometimes I delete these items without even looking at what is in there, but since some of the PM notifications from IowaWhitetail wind up in there, I will sometimes open it.
Well, this morning there was an email from an outfitter whose name I will omit. I found their view of statistics rather humorous:
[ QUOTE ]
(outfitters name removed) boasts of some of the highest success rates in the nation, for trophy whitetail under fair chase conditions. The 2006 success rates for obtaining a shot at a record book buck at less than 30 yards were as follows: (Success rates exceeding 100% simply indicates we had more opportunities to shoot trophy bucks than hunters in camp.)
* Archery Non-Rut 82%
* Archery Rut 167%
* 1st gun 145%
* 2nd Gun 136%
* Late Muzzeloader 95%
[/ QUOTE ]
So using this line of reasoning, congratulations to everyone for having 100% success this year whether you went out or not. I would put this in the category of "counting chicks before they were hatched". I guess it is all how you measure "success".
