Snowing to beat the band tonight and they say wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible on Sunday...wind chills at -1 or so...BRRRR! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

my girlfriend is on her way home from work. i decided id salt the sidewalk. i threw down two handfulls and the freakin wind blew it all off the sidewalk into the grass. now that aint right.

Well, its 8F outside, wind Chill -13F, some serous snow outside, and drifts. I think I'll go out for a walk, in the woods, with my gun /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Don't exactly know where the deer are going to be hunkered down during something like this? Heavy Evergreen cover maybe?

I suspect they'll be in the cedars if possible...

Sure is pretty out there this morning...might be a good day for a real slow still hunt in heavy cover. Wind and snow make good stalking weather! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Woke up and heard the wind this morn and went back to sleep. Decided to head out and pulled into mt area at 11:30 am. With a west wind it made it perfect for a spot and stock. There were track every where and jumped six does when i got to a clearing with no shots.Crept into the thick stuff and 40 yrds in I see deer moving and thought it was the deer I had bumped earlier but they were coming towards me. I picked out a spot and when the first doe hit it I shot and broke both shoulder with her plowing to a stop 15 yrds away. There was about eighteen in the group when all hell broke lose after the shot.Shes a good sized doe and the friend that let me hunt here is in the process of adopting five kids that are all brothers and sisters and were just about to be split up in diffrent foster homes.I am going to gind this girl up and give to them to help out there grocery bill and still have a bow tag to fill which I hope I can do the same.

There were human foot prints in the neighbors timber when I drove by at noon, so I'm guessing somebody was out hunting. On the way to town, I saw a 4X4 p/u driving along brushy draws out in the middle of a large section. Not sure what they were up to, though guessing it was no good.

I'm betting that shotgun licenses will be valid for the late antlerless season. Any takers?

OMG, it was well worth going out in that weather. I didn't get anything, but I saw some serious deer. Deer population is WAY bigger in my area than I thought. Deer were herded up at least a dozen or so. That many eyes watching they busted me every time I tried to stalk. I did take one shot at 75 yards but it was thick brush and I missed. Went to take another shot and my gun was FROZEN. I couldn't even move the saftey back. I was out in the sleet the day before and must have gotten mositure inside. I put my gun halfway inside my coveralls for a half our and it finally thawed out. Too late, as the deer boogied down into the protected preserve.

On my way home, there was about 14 deer in a patch of evergreens right next to the road, about 50 yards away. Dang, its too bad we can't shoot from the road :p I went for a drive around my area. Deer huttled up in the evergreens everywhere...

I stalked up on 2 I saw under the evergreens. At 30 yds I shot the first one, never got up.The 2nd one stood to see what happened and kapowee lights out.Took less than 30 min to fill empty tags.On the down side, they were both buttons.

we hunted yesterday
it was real fun driving to NE Iowa but we made it
I saw about 10 doe in the morning but no shots offered
Missed a coyote
One of my friends shot at a doe but missed

yep, it was COLD but the deer were moving arond in the timber

we didn't see or hear any other hunters
I guess the weather was too bad for them AGAIN!
Hahahahahahah

I figure maybe the DNR will have a special 4th of July hunt for those that can't/won't hunt in less than ideal weather?
