Stay warm fellows

Went out bowhunting years ago( like 35ish ) in a raging blizzard.
Windchill was like 65*below. Stole my dad's truck cuz mine wouldn't start, drove around a sheriff's " road closed" barricade. Lol.
Walked across a 3/4 mile crp field and snuck into a Swamp.
Crawled up into a tipped over boxelder tree and sat on a limb.
Missed a 100% over 200" nt at spitting range. I was literally frozen!

Looking back, I could not imagine doing that again. How freaking stupid.

Young/ dumb and still had a tag. Lol.
No cell phones and no one knew where I was.

Got a horrible verbal asswhooping from dad later!o_O

Perfect late season weather coming with brutal cold and snow..if you have standing grain, you will probably see every buck on your farm. The only problem comes if you kill one and have to drag and field dress in those conditions.

I still remember the pain I was in the night I shot one when it was super cold. Back before heated insulated blinds. I couldn’t even reload my muzzleloader because as soon as I took my hand out of my glove, I lost all dexterity. The next deer I shoot in that type of weather better be the next world record and then I’d probably still think twice about it. Definitely have loads of respect for those animals surviving in those types of conditions. We definitely have gained the upper hand now with all the comforts available to us.

Agreed, it better be huge in brutal temps or it's not worth it..I remember in years past coming out of my heater body suit to climb down and my hands instantly lost feeling and movement..Now it's fiberglass blinds and that makes it WAY easier to sit out in the cold weather. I use my bow to help even it out and give the deer a fighting chance.

Same thing happened to me the last time I made it up there for shotgun season.
By the time I made it to the truck, I could barely type the code to unlock the door.

I remember those day too. Toes would get so cold they hurt to even walk. No way my fingers would work or have much feeling in them either. I made my own blinds after we lost a couple places we hunted. The first blind was small and was made to tilt into the back of the truck. The blind I have now is air tight, dry and warm. I'll be it this weekend and within 30 minutes it'll be 60 degrees or better.

Some people complain about them temps, but Dad always has said it keeps the tourists out, and he likes it that way. Lol.

I actually prefer these conditions, Throw the heated socks on. Layer up. Set the LP heater in the blind. Add 6 inches of snow. And some standing beans. It's not if, but when at that point. The late Season is actually becoming my favorite time to hunt.

October 25-Nov 3rd. Then I'll just wait till it gets COLD with snow.

If I can't sit in a blind, then it's a little different. I can stand very cold conditions for 1.5 hours sitting out in the open, by then I've had enough. Even with heated everything on.

I can't bring myself to sit in a heated blind. Well I sat in one last year but didn't turn the heat on even though my feet froze. I really don't like sitting in any blinds, and for some weird reason enjoy the pain and discomfort that comes with exposed stand sitting. I also hate not being able to see everything around me. Drives me crazy not being able to see clearly at all angles. I'm sure I will grow to accept it. I did get heated socks this year, but haven't used them yet.

Should've taken those heated socks for a test run yesterday afternoon. :p My thermometer said it was 11 degrees inside my blind when I got in at 3pm. I left at 5:30 and I don't think I could've sat in a tree stand yesterday for that long. I can see pretty good out of mine, it's only 4' square on the inside and with a swivel chair, I can see out the 2' x 2' windows that are in all 4 sides pretty well. Did see a doe being chased by a 8 point that grunting pretty good.
Guy in my brother's blind shot a 9 point and saw several more younger deer. Around 5, I have fifteen doe come out to graze in the hay field and could see a few more deer in timber, just couldn't tell what they were. Oh ya, it only took 25 minutes for the temp to reach 60 degrees inside the blind.

I would've much rather been testing them out instead of moving a couple of family members all week. Somehow I ended up being the primary mover of two households when I went into the week thinking I would just be an extra hand if needed for 1 household. Hoping to get out Wed, Thur, and Friday and hoping I can remember to pack those socks because my feet always freeze.

I'm going back out Thursday and Friday and sitting in my brother's blind. Temps look pretty good.
