Tag soup..

Well, now that disabled season is over, anyone have any recipes? Last night was a good night, seen deer, but wasn't going to shoot a doe with an hour of light yet. Seen a spike chasing 3 does while grunting, and a nice 8pt that came running in, did a lap in front of me, then back into the corn field on a dead run. Felt like it was rut..

To bad the disabled tag doesn't work like a youth tag. Hunting from a wheelchair is 10x harder than any other hunting IMO, especially early season. Weeds are tall, can't see over them, and short of expensive elevated homemade blinds or mechanical treestands, I'm stuck on the ground only where I can get to.

Course if it was extended, everyone with a sore back will get their doctor to sign off so they can be "disabled"...

Sounds like you might qualify for a non ambulatory deer tag. Good for any season until used. Can use a Shotgun or muzzy. Need to get a permit for it but once your doctor signs off on it it's good for life. I'd look into it if you want to hunt multiple seasons. Might not be able to get one for this year but still worth looking into.

Straight from Iowa DNR regs... Page 12 and 27

Non-Ambulatory Deer Permit and License
A non-ambulatory (see p. 12) Iowa resident
may be issued one any-deer license which may
be used to hunt deer with a shotgun or a muzzleloading
rifle during any established deer hunting
season. A person obtaining this license may obtain
any other deer hunting licenses for which they
are eligible. Applications for a non-ambulatory
license permit are available online at
www.iowadnr.gov then clicking on hunting licenses
and laws, or any of the regional or district
offices listed on p. 45, or by calling the DNR at
515-281-5918. After approval and filing of the
permit application with the DNR, non-ambulatory
hunters may purchase this special license at any
ELSI agent

Thats what I have I believe, and have filed the paperwork with the DNR. Just shows on the tag that I have the season only goes till the 6th. Unless I didn't get the right one? I might need to just call them again to find out for sure.

License should say 209 Nonambulatory hunter. Season dates 09/21/2013- 12/11/2013 and 12/14/2013 -01/10/2014.

Not sure why they left a 2 day gap in there. Call the DNR to see if you can still get the license. Good luck!

Maybe make another post with a title explaining the situation. We have a couple members who are wheelchair bound and may be able to shed more light.

I think the two day gap is because that's the gap between gun seasons when there's no established seasons open. Other than that, I'm no help in this topic, but I hope you can get the right tag

Now that you mention that I had forgotten about the gun season gap. Thanks for the info!

I had filled out the wrong application a couple of years ago, I filled out the one to hunt from a vehicle on public lands, which was dumb, because I hunt on private ground only..lol

So I have to fill out basically the exact same form to get this new license. So off to the doctor tomorrow I guess, hopefully they can get it sent off by next week, so I can have my tag before rut.

Thanks for the help Nate.

Glad you got it worked out. Doctor should have it sent in by the rut so you should be good! Good luck to you and post a pic of the big boy you shoot.:way:

Talked to them a total of 3 times so far. Evidently I already filled out a non-ambulatory permit back in 2007. They told me to get the replacement permit, and black out the expiration date, then I just needed to buy a bow tag and I could use whatever I wanted..

The permit I have is 850 non ambulatory...

I hope they didn't screw me over... But its looking like they have no idea what they are talking about...
