If hunters don't choose to manage the herd, that privelege will be placed elsewhere

One thing that gets lost in the shuffle is this...

If the IDNR doesn't make a reasonable effort to keep our deer herd at reasonable levels...

Legislators will...
and other hunters will be more then happy to take does if given the chance

One thing I have noticed is that as the herd #'s have went up

quality of antlered deer has went down in my area at least.

So many "off limits" sanctuaries around me that running out of deer is unlikely anytime soon

I think we also have more people traveling at dawn and dusk to there jobs due to the lack of jobs in there area or just wanting to enjoy the rual life. The area I hunt in the last 5 yrs has had a huge increse in homes being built and they can live in the country and be in to work in west des moines in 30 min.or less.I live in Johnston and see deer every day in the area during my travels and have had to slam on my brakes more this winter then ever, but all these areas have also been developed or are in the process of being developed and the deer are adapting and moving more to feeding areas.I know some accidents can't be avoided, but I think people need to take off the blinders. They need to remember the deer were there long before they built a $500.000 home.If you have seen deer in an area in your travels, slow down and be on the look out.

the average miles driven per person goes up every year. FB never seems to mention that. all they say is deer/car collisions increase. how big is the increase when deer hit compared to miles driven are figured?
