We had storm warnings out for this afternoon and my Wife and I were sitting out on our front porch just watching the storm make its way to us when she said is that what I think it is, I said HELL YES and went and got the camera. I think we had 3 different Tornados in 5 minutes. Only 1 touched down but did not due any damage..I have always said that I wanted to see one but 3 this close to our home is just a little to close for me..

I hear they hit over this way and lot's of damage but I haven't went for a drive yet. We lost power and just got it back a little while ago. We had lot's of hail, straight line winds and black as all get out...scarey enough for me!

It seems like tornado alley is moving north. (At least the last few years )We're getting a break and Kansas and Nebraska are taking up the slack. We'll probably get hammered now.

I never thought about going inside for cover. Just wanted to stay and see the action. The 1st one was just south of our house but it didnt make it to the ground. It sure got the old blood pumper going that is for sure.. They were coming out of everywhere. Im glad I got to see them but it will do for a while.

Cool photos! The tornado sirens were blaring as I pulled in the drive after shed hunting. There was a confirmed tornado in Riverside just south of Iowa City. I went to the back yard with the camera. There was a lot of swirling going on in the clouds, but no funnels, thankfully. I kinda want to see one but don't want any damage!

Thanks for sharing.

I just found out that several neighbors a mile north of us lost their barns and tremendous amount of trees down in some places. Tornado season is just starting too!

Cool pics Mark! We heard there was one in Bloomfield from Verna when Tracy called her. I'd like to see one like that.

Very cool photos. I had the unfortunate "opportunity" to see one first hand in 1978. Hit my home town of Manson IA and our house was the last house standing on our side of our block. 1950's construction quality saved our house and we "only" had about 50% valuation damage. Everything north was flatten. I could walk N of our house and look clean across town ( about 1-1/2 miles) as the storm hit the NW corner and exited the SE corner of town. Over 110 homes down and 3 killed. I still love the awesome power of Iowa's thunderstorms but have had a different outlook on how close I want to be to a tornado every since that day. Season is coming and don't ever think it can't happen to you.

Last fall while hunting I had quite the tornado experience. I was hunting just east of woodward about a mile and half from the nearest road. I was dropped off by a buddy with a boat. It was a nice evening and I was hunting at the base of a steep ridge. I could hear thunder to the west of me and didn't think much of it. The thunder sounded like the storm was tracking North. All of the sudden I hear tornado sirens and my ole man calls from the other side of the river and told me to get H E double hockey sticks out of there. I didn't really want to leave because of a couple does around me and it was prime rut, but I noticed all the black clouds rolling over the ridge. I got kind of a sick feeling to my stomach and pulled the lonewolf set up out in record time. As soon as I got everything packed up it cut loose. The most violent wind and rain that I could ever imagine. It sounded like a freight train roaring through the woods. Since I was stranded with no boat, I had to ride it out. I knew there was about a ten foot drop on the river bank so I made my way there and crawled into a washout in a beaver run about a foot before the water surface. It was really wierd because I was out of the wind but everything in front of me seemed to be on fire. Horse weeds were flying all around me and the sound was amazing. Water was pouring down the beaver run, and I was getting majorly soaked. There was so much water I started loosing my grip and had to pry my feet and back against the bank so I didn't slid into the river. I couldn't even crawl up the beaver run it was so muddy. That is when the hail hit, at first it was just light pelts, then it started to hurt, I threw my backpack over my head while my legs took a beating. The river seemed to be boiling in front of me from the hail. I kept thinking any minute now a tornado was going to rip over the ridge and throw me into the river for some reason. I just kept laughing because because it was pretty exciting, and I keep thinking what an idiot I was for being out there. As soon as it came it was gone. It all the sudden got quiet and the sun came out. I could hear deer running wild throughout the bottom and kept thinking, I should get back into a tree, but I was soaked, cold, and miserable. My buddy called me up, and asked if I wanted to keep hunting or go home. I said lets get out of here, which he gladly agreed. We found out the tornado went through about 2-miles down from us. The poor town of woodward got smashed. The funny thing is when we all left to go hunting we just heard on the news of the tornado warnings, but you can't keep a guy out of the tree during the rut

WOW, awesome pics!! I have seen one funnell cloud over our small town and that got me nervous!!

LIV4RUT - that same thing happened to me turkey hunting, minus the tornados. I was sitting there and it was thundering and I had gobblers all around me gobbling their heads off and no way I was leaving!! All of a sudden it started pooring and hailing like crazy! Luckily I was in my popup blind so I zipped up the windows and sat it out! When it passed I unzipped the windows and was back to live action!! Never did get a bird that afternoon but real close!!

Those are some great photos. I have one on video from a couple years ago that hit the ground around here. They are pretty amazing to watch.
