I just got back from south dakota...went to sturgis and some other towns that was FILLED with bikers. I am surprised about how many there was. Is anyone planning on going or has gone in the past? It is a blast!
My family and I are at Rapid City right now! We are doing a family vacation, not Sturgis. Went to Mt. Rushmore today, Badlands yesterday. Heading to Billings, MT tomorrow, then down to Yellowstone. Tons of bikers everywhere! Maybe bad timing on our part, but you get away when you can.

We went to Idaho a couple years ago and stopped in northern Iowa for a break at a Mc.D.'s. The place was filled with bikers and I was a little
until one turned around with a Sturgis or Bust shirt on
We saw perhaps thousands of bikers along the way...some driving massive motorhomes towing trailers...bikes safely tucked inside to people riding with the bare minimum (and I do mean bare
)
My family found it all entertaining...a zillion different tattoos and people from all walks of life and every state.
The Badlands and Yellowstone are awesome sights! (don't forget to stop in Livingston MT for some Rocky Mountain Oysters
)
I did get chewed out cause we didn't take time to stop at Mt Rushmore though...so I hope you took some pics Bronc
Have worked bike week up there the last 5 yrs till changing jobs.Beautiful country for riding when you can get away from the crowds.Would like to get the family up there before or after bike week,which is about a month or longer deal now.
Been to Sturgis once with the bike . Never again. what a pain. Wasn't fun at all.
I went in June this year. Stayed at Terry Peak (Lead). Weather is much better. Had a great time. Love the Black Hills.
when we went we were lucky enough to have some family that live outside of hill city. That is a very nice town in the middle of the hills. But the town was packed with hundreds of bikers. after seeing all of them makes me want to get one
Jealous, to say the least! That was always a favorite with my family as far as vacations went growing up. If any of you ever get a chance to hike Harney Peak (highest point east of the Rockies), DO IT - the view is out of this world!!! Enjoy your trips ... did I mention I'm jealous
RiverBttm Boy... yes, the corn palace is still around, however there is talk that this might be the first year that they will not be able to completely cover it with corn - due to the drought.
Deer hunting in the Black Hills is getting much better - they put an antler restriction in place 3-4 years ago and I've been seeing more and more great bucks coming out of there.
We did the family vaction out there a few years ago. We did the corn palace, Rushmore, Yellowstone, and then the Grand Tetons. I would highly recommend going down to see the Grand Teton. Great place to catch big trout right below the dam. Moose every where in that area. The views are amazing and I got some awesome photos.
I have the misfortune too put up with bike week each year. I am currently working in Boulder Canyon, which I have to drive thru Sturgis each day. Not fun. Anyway here is a short video of last Monday (before it really even got bad) This is how every bit of pavement and asphalt looks within 100 miles. http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y182/oh2b/?action=view&current=MOV00151.flv
We just got home yesterday from sturgis.. We love it ever year we go. The hills are some best riding there is. We got caught in a 3" rain and got hailed on for a half hour. All we could do is to stand on the side of the road and take it..
The Hells Angels were in town and shot and killed 3 men in the Outlaw gang in Custer..
My wife got her 1st tatoo and just loved it. She is talked about getting another one already..
We are counting down the days till next years trip. If you can't ride with the big dogs you better stay at home on the porch......
