Tripled Up on the first night!

The Hunt Never Ends....
Last night I brought a lazy boy into the house that had been in storage. Upon placing it in my living room, moving it a few times, and finding a spot that I felt it looked good in, I sat down, and hoped to relax. Upon lifting the leg rest, my girlfriend, who was sitting on the couch a few feet away let out a blood curling scream. The next thing I know I see her jumping onto the couch and I see two mice run out underneath of the chair!

Well, war has begun and the traps were set last night. I got three, and I'm just hoping theres not too many more, however, I'm sure there will be. We recently moved into a farmhouse and the upstairs was just remodeled and looks very nice, however, the basement is still unfinished. I'm gonna throw a few up down there and see what happens. This war is far from over. On a sidenote, if anyone wants any mouse meat I'd be happy to send'em your way!

None of those mice look mature if you ask me. All 1.5-2.5. Should have let them walk another year.

One good thing about this is you don't have to worry about your girlfriend sitting in your new chair

Good luck with the old farm house and mice, we used to catch over 50 a winter until we got an outdoor cat that could hunt.

x 2 for the cats.

I lived in an old farmhouse with a partial dirt basement and those little vermin were crapping on the kitchen counter within 2 weeks of moving in - my wife was freaking out.

Defense (traps/poison) doesn't keep them out.
You've gotta bring in the first string offense (cats) to push them back.

I think it's the smell of the cats as much as anything that shuts the mice down.

I hate cats, but they are useful in this situation. :way:

Feed em all the D-con they will eat. We used that stuff on our farm year round for mice and rats and it kept them in check big time.

I'm just scared that if I use poison that they will crawl off somewhere in my house, die, and stink. I'm planning on bringing a cat up from my dads this weekend. His name is Leo andd he's a real killer!

If you use poison, keep it outside of the house, otherwise you'll just be luring more outside mice in to eat the "food"

Best mouse trap ever.....

Take an deep pan or pot or shallow bucket. Use 2 12"rulers as "ramps" up each side. Take a piece of wire and put an old empty yarn spool or spindle in the middle of the wire (so it spins) cover the spindle with peanut butter and fill the bottom of the bucket with about 4-6 inches of water. The mice will walk up the ramps, crawl out on the wire and when they reach the spindle it will spin and they will fall in the water and drown. It works unbelievably well. We bought an old cabin in the U.P when I was growing up and there were mice everywhere. Regular traps just weren't doing the job, so we built one of these. first time we checked it there were 10 mice in the water. It's easy to rebait and you can leave it for awhile in the basement. Resetting is as easy as refilling with new water and spreading some more peanut butter. :way:

Better give Ole' Leo a good pep talk :way: Then unleash the beast!

I've built similar as well. Record is 14 mice caught in one night in an tent hunting out west.

I use a 5 gallon bucket. Drill hole on opoite sides along the top. Drill hole in the bottom of two pop or beer cans. Run a wire throught the cans, out the mouth hole, and through the tab. Wire the cans across the opening of the bucket. Put 3-4 inches of water in the bottom, smear the cans with peanut butter, and ramps to the bucket. Let me know if you break the record. I have video evidence of the 14 in one night, and a witness (OneCam), so no fibbing!:D

Oh I have that beat.......kinda. We use this setup in our cabin in MN over the winter. Only we use antifreeze instead of water. one so it doesnt freeze in the winter and 2 it keeps the smell down from dozens of dead mice rotting in the bucket. Of course its there all winter so the half full bucket of mice come may have been from 4 months not 1 night.

Well, put this together quick after work and placed it down in the basement. Pretty sure this is what you guys were talking about....anyways, we'll see how it works :drink1:
