I read this article and was more than a little shocked to say the least.
As soon as I finish this post I'm going to contact those who opted not to make an appearance in Pennsylvania and let them know I appreciate the stance they took.
Now, what I need from someone on here is to read the statement by the NRA and explain it to me. Are they or are they not going to be at that show? The way I read it suggests to me that they will and that their priorities lie more with a money making opportunity than in defending a firearms manufacturer. I read this three times and I still came to that conclusion. Personally, I would think that the NRA members in PA would understand the NRA not making an appearance.

I understand it to mean the NRA will be there to show support of the 2nd Amendment and for the supporters and sportsmen that do make it. They do, however, want people to voice their displeasure to Reed Exhibition. I am glad to see so many refuse to go to the show regardless of the money lost. It's a shame for the people who wanted to meet them but surely understand.

I read it the same way, that the NRA will still be attending. If ANYONE should be pulling out, it should be them in my opinion.

I think the NRA's decision to appear at this show while all the celebs and other companies backed out is a great thing on both behalves.

We NEED their voice, in person, to help spread the word and even protest the show's decision. They are there to represent our position and fight the fight. And, no matter how you feel about "celebs" in the hunting world, this is a fine example of why they can be a good thing. These big names being willing to stand up for our rights in the public limelight speaks volumes.

If I could, I'd pat each of them on the back and thank them for doing what's right...

Can't say the same for Reeds... If they don't change their decision, I hope this bankrupts them!

So you took that the same way I did then? That's good to know because I'm getting pretty steamed at the NRA and didn't want to have misplaced anger.
How do you think manufacturers of AR style guns feel? Do you think they're saying "well...you guys are going to voice your complaints, and you'll probably pick up a few more members and make more money so...yeah I guess I understand."
I can't help but feel like the NRA is betraying those guys. I don't know, maybe I've had too much coffee this morning but I feel like those sponsors/personallities/vendors are saying to the anti gunners, if you want to beat us, this is how you do it. I don't know who said what to Reeds but they apparently have found the price tag to our 2nd Ammendment Rights.

I understand and kind of feel the same way. However, I am positive the NRA is filled with a lot of smart people, much smarter than myself. And I am also positive they have the 2nd's best interest in mind. Maybe by going, they feel they can provide some pressure against Reed's decision. I don't know, but I'm sure they have a reason for attending if they continue that route.

Nope, can't get behind them on this one. I tried Lyon, I read your post and agreed with you. I even posted such. And then it hit me (hence the edit), did the Founding Fathers put up with taxation without representation? Did they say we'll pay it but we are going to tell the Brits we don't like it? Or did they boycott it?
I think that by attending this event the NRA is selling out.
They have more than enough ways to contact their members and tell them why they didn't go. I think this about money and greed and has nothing to do with standing up for what they believe in.
Tomorrow I'm calling them to let them know how much this pisses me off.

I understand and don't blame you for feeling that way. I would hope that the NRA would be going with a mind to educate the general public that will still be attending.

That's what I had thought at first too but then it occurred to me that the general public that would be going are already sportsmen.
I'm just going to have to wait and see how the NRA continues to handle this.
BTW, I called a bunch of the people who have already opted not to attend (Cabelas, Ralph and Vicki C. and Fred Eichler to name a few) to let them know I supported their decision. Fred actually answered his phone (surprise!) but the for the rest of them I talked to marketing people who told me they had a lot of calls with support. Primos said they were going to make their decision this afternoon.
It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out in the end.

I've been following all this as well since I live close to the show location. Cabelas has opted out this year as well as Lancaster Archery with many others to follow. I agree with their devissions and I will not be attending either, 1st time I won't go since it started many years ago.....

Well, my hats' off to you sir.
I know it sucks not going to events like this, especially in the off season when there isn't much else to do. So I'll extend my thanks to you as well for not supporting something that infringes on our rights.:way:

I'm very happy with the boycott. Many thanks to the people and companies to do this. I would hope sportsmen and sportswomen would also boycott the show. Not sure what angle the NRA is working?

It would be awesome if all the groups that aren't going could have one right next door during the same dates.

It could be sponsored by Rock River Arms and DPMS. Now that would be cool.
