As you know there is a ton of
Ethanol plants going up all over
Iowa and the midwest.

Wasn't the idea of these ethanol plants going up
to help bring down the price of fuel and
help make us less dependent on foreign oil.

Someone tell me why the gas prices are still going up!!!

Are we shipping this ethanol out of the United States?

Doesn't make sense....

I just needed to get this off my chest...

This is quite simply that the demand is high enough that us fools are dependant on it and willing to spend the money on it. Look for the fuel companies to make record profits again.

Unfortunately, the production of corn based ethanol requires a lot of energy. It is one of the biggest hoaxes of our lifetime. It is not the answer. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

All the Ethanol craze has really done is slow down our progress in regards to devolping other potentially viable fuel alternatives.

the gov has us by the b*lls......
i wish that i didnt need to drive to work......
thats it
im gonna buy a mule and ride him to work.,......

I guess 1 bushel of corn makes about 2.7 gallons of ethanol and 18 pounds of animal feed. Figure in the price of 1 bushel of corn and I can see why ethanol isn't any cheaper

Irritating gas prices for sure. They have made me start riding my bicycle to work, good thing it's only 3 miles.

So expensive here because of the war, think about it, on average a loaded (with bombs) F-16 takes about 10,000 lbs of fuel just to get off the ground, they are small compared to your transport airplanes. Take on average 30-40 take-offs per day you are talking around 400,000 lbs of fuel burned just by F-16's by 1 base.

So if someone has the conversion factor for lbs to gallons, all I know it is alot of gallons, so initially you are paying for the fuel to fight this war because of high gas prices.

Take a look at some of the countries not involved in this war, Saudi Arabia, if I remember correctly was around 34 cents a gallon, though supply isnt very high, country of Qatar, when I was there seemed like everyone drove and gas was only $1.34 after conversion.

Get used to it or do like Muddy and move closer to work.

I would rather live a hour away from work, live on a farm and spend that 100,000 dollars I saved by moving a hr away from the city to buy that gas, just me though.

I only live 2 blocks from my office...

However I own the business and I have 3 work trucks that I have to pay the gas bill on.

I should go buy motorcycles for work vehicles to save money.

Water weighs 8.34 lbs / gallon, so I would guess gas is a little less than that, probably not too much though.

On the plus side my friends that are beef producers say that increased ethanol production will lead to increased beef prices since they have to compete with the production plants for corn for feed. Higher overhead for them, higher prices at the meat counter. Wait, that isn't really a plus side, actually it sucks, good thing I eat a lot of deer who steal that corn. Still lots of meat available for the price of a tag.

Gas weighs 6.1 to 6.5 lbs/gallon. Each type and brand of gas will weigh slightly different. Ethanol is 6.59 lbs/gallon. The specific gravity of gas is about 0.74. Which means that gas weighs 0.74 times that of water. Diesel is about 9.24 lbs/gallon for type A, while Jet fuel is near 6.8. You could use the water weight conversion, multiply by 0.74 to convert the answer to gas instead of water. (Water = 8.33)

Alot of complaining about gas prices, but I don't notice demand going down.Idiots in my town out proving they are men all hrs of the night with their vehicles of choice, Hot Rod, or Harley. Lots of big SUV's, inhabited by a lone little lady or young kid, and many kids getting kicks on Quads,,expensive Toys, for children. Looks to me like business as usual. They all have more money than I do to spend on GAS. When not extremely important,,my truck stays in the garage!

It sure makes me think twice before driving around looking at deer when it costs this much.

The driving never ends with kids in baseball/softball....

3 games down, 45 to go...

I did get 19 mpg in my Duramax last week. Thankfully diesel is cheaper than gas again.

I know what you mean Ghost.Spent $600.00 on gas and hotel only for a baseball tourney in KC last weekend only to have it rained out four games into it.

I'm not sure how legitimate the information is, but I was told the fuel efficiency of new diesel engines is going to skyrocket within two years. I certainly hope my buddy is right. Says his bro-in-law is an "insider" in the auto world. Take it for what it's worth...
